2012 800XP - no gas guage - whats wrong????

2012 800XP works great
Then I lost the gas guage
It has no bars - like the tank is empty - but it is full.
Not exactlly sure but also seems like the hand warmers did not warm up properly last ride.

checked the main fuses at the battery - they are okay
is there another fuse system some where else???

Any one else have this problem

Help - can not figure this out...

There should be a fuse right at the sending unit behind the air box.

I believe the plug for nthe wiring from the sender is right behind the airbox and in front of the tank. I would check the connection there to start.

did you burp the tank on fillup? sometimes my 2010 the fuel guage would freak out if i did that. would show empty all day. gas light on and everything.

The XP's have a finicky sender..... On my 2010 I had to adjust it untill I got it right. If you remove the airbox (which slides out), you will see the unit that is on the tank and that is where the fuse link is. The sending unit can be rotated to adjust. Its very sensitive so it doesn't take much. I have mine working good and never any issues. It was out a bit from new. When full, would read 3/4 tank so it was close but would show empty after 50 miles and I knew I had at least a half tank left. Now, it stays on full and when I get to 1-2 bars after 100 miles, I'm getting close to empty. Alot of the guys I know have all had the same issues with these electric guages....

Yeah mine will read full and the tank will be 1/4 left to empty, have to turn sled off and refire maybe a few times then it reads right, still not that accurate though. damn near left me out in the sticks one day.
Go back to the old compass style lol.

I seem to remember something on it.....I'll look around.... from what I remember there are indexing marks on the tank and sender mount....near the top. The factory indexing marks never worked for me, I had to fiddle with the indexing untill it worked. Like I said, really small adjustments.....not a 1/4 turn.....lol

When I look at this picture, it looks to me like the tabbed sending unit should be rotated clockwise so the flat tab on top is flat in relation to the world instead of at the 11:00 position as shown. I think mine is even rotated past 12:00 and almost to the 1:00 position.

Hey!!!!....if ya want the old 60's style compass guage.... you'll have to ride the new 2013 pro poolaris.....standard issue.....LOL

They have to be clocked at a certain position for the float to work and for it not to hit the side of the tank.

Yes, and now that I think about it, the picture shows the correct installation as the further counter-clockwise you go with the flat area on top the higher the bars will read on the guage.
Alot of them came from the factory with the flat straight to the tunnel and therefore the float would hit the side of the tank and only read 3/4 tank at best.....

Ill have to give this a try. My 08 has been empty for as long as i can remember. Just picked up another 08 for the girlfriend and it reads empty on full too.

my gas gauge is so inconsitent to one day the fuel light came on and went 20 km before running out the other day it came on and went 2 km before running. seems to read right when full just not when it gets low
