Hi Everyone,

Our first ride is quickly approaching so I figured I would send out a ride update.

The first trip of the year is going to be to Golden BC on December 17, 2011. We will stage at the Quartz creek staging area between 10 and 10:30 and head up the trail sometime around 11AM. This area is located approximately 45 kilometers west of Golden on Highway 1 on the South side of the highway.

I have stayed at both the Golden Rim or the Ramada in Golden and have had good experiences at both. Please be sure to have a $20 trail fee and all of the requred safefy equipment (Probe, Shovel and Beacon). I have heard that the snow may be a little thin up at Quartz, but we should be able to ride.

Please let me know if you can make it out,
Jeremy Siddon

Happy holidays everyone!

Our club ride to Sandpoint Idaho is approaching fast. I have talked to the Sanpoint club president and he is very happy to lead us around on the 29[SUP]th[/SUP] of December. He recommended that we stay at the Holiday inn in Ponderay so I have booked into that hotel. I was thinking that we would meet in the hotel lobby at about 8AM on the 29[SUP]th[/SUP] where we can decide on a location for breakfast. Pat is going to eat at home and meet us when we are ready to hit the trail; this is so that he can take us to the appropriate trail based on the conditions. He also mentioned that we may be in luck as the weather forecast has changed to include some white stuff in the coming week.

Please ensure that you have some sort of proof of ownership for your snowmobiles when crossing the border as they may give you a hard time on your way back into the country. I am going to ensure that I have up to date registration and insurance to prove this.

I will be in Sandpoint/Ponderay on the 28[SUP]th[/SUP], and plan to go for dinner/drinks at Slates Grill (Across the street from the Holiday Inn Express) so if you are in town that evening then feel free to stop by and join us.

As always please ensure that you have all of your safety equipment with you (Probe, Shovel, Beacon) for this ride.

Sorry that this ride update is so late, please feel free to contact me for more information regarding the ride.

Hi Everyone,

This months general meeting was very busy and there were some key changes to the upcoming rides. The most important of these changes is to the upcoming ride scheduled for the inn on the border. A motion was passed to move this club ride to the York Creek staging area in the Crowsnest pass, which will also coincide with the CrowSnow Riders poker rally. There is a $5/hand buy in at the staging area with registration happening between 9AM and 11AM, or there is pre-registration at the Blairmore legion from 7-10PM on the friday night before. Please see the CrowSnow riders website () for more information regarding this event. The club members who wish to ride as a group should be ready to ride around 10:30, either Joel or Randall should be available to lead the ride and have the Calgary snowmobile club banner posted.

The second major change was to the STARS ride, which was scheduled to be at Cataract creek on the 18th of February. At this time the ride and location will still stand as a club ride, however we are going to consider the Westcastle club ride on March 17th the new STARS ride. Pledge forms will be available at the next general meeting, however if you would like to acquire one sooner please contact Joel Wasnidge (President@calgarysnowmobileclub.net) or myself for a pledge form. To help us raise funds for STARS we are going to request that each attending rider (Club member or not) donate at least $20 to a pledged rider or have raised over $20 in pledges themselves.

The last update I have is in regards to the Club ride in Radium on February 4th, the current plan is to stage at the lower staging at forester creek, I have included the directions to this staging area below. The trail ride in to the cabin can be a long one so I would like to be staged and ready to go between 10 and 10:30AM. Please be aware that a trail fee is due at this location, they do not always have somebody collecting but the trail pass fee can be paid at the trail head or in the cabin which both have donation boxes. Please ensure that all riders have all required safety equipment, you will not be permitted to join the ride without a beacon, probe and shovel. These items can be rented for a minimal fee from the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre.

Please let me know if you can make it out or have any questions.

Hope to see you out there,
Jeremy Siddon

DIRECTIONS TO FORESTER STAGING
Once in Radium you will head West at the Hwy 95 and Hwy 93 intersection. This will lead you towards the Sawmill.
Once you get down the hill take a left on Horsethief Creek Road (this turn can sneak up on you). Stay on this road
until you reach a stop sign. Make a right at the stop sign and follow this road until you see the staging area on the
left-hand side.

[FONT=&quot]Hi Everyone,

I have contacted the Windermere valley snowmobile club and was informed that the trail is going to be groomed and that the trail pass fee is going to be $20. I was also informed that the lower staging area we were planning to stage at is currently closed so we will have to use the upper staging area. I have included directions to the upper staging area below. I would like to leave staging around 10:30am on Saturday, I should have the Calgary Snowmobile Club sign out until we head up the trail.

Hopefully we will see many of you out there with your probes, shovels and beacons!

Proceed straight through this stop sign, about 4km down the road you will come to a fork at which you should stay to the right. Another 5km or so down the road you will cross a bridge, on the other side of the bridge stay to the left for about another km and you will be at the upper staging area.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking forward to a couple more rides this season. The March 17th ride is going to be the STARS ride, this ride was originally scheduled for Westcastle however due to a recommendation from the crow snow riders we are going to move the ride to the York Creek staging area. I have included directions to the staging area at the bottom of this E-mail. We are going to start this ride a little earlier, please try to be at staging around 9AM for a 9:30 start on the trail. To participate in this ride you are going to need to ensure that you have your insurance, registration, ASA trail pass, probe, shovel, beacon and have pledged at least $20 to one of the riders with a pledge sheet (there should be riders available on site to pledge towards).

The next ride after that will be to Revelstoke on April 7th, Brian will be leading this ride and would like to stage at Frisby ridge at 9AM heading down the trail around 9:30. A trail pass of $20 is required at this staging area, I have attached directions to this staging area as well. As with all of our rides please ensure that you have all of the safety equipment required to join in on the ride.

Please let myself and/or Doug Donnelly (VP@Calgarysnowmobileclub.net) if you are going to be joining on the STARS ride and let Brian Valcourt (SSR@calgarysnowmobileclub.net) or myself know if you are going to make it out on the Revelstoke ride.

Hope to see you all out on the hills,
Jeremy Siddon

Directions to York Creek
York Creek staging area #48(this access is out of Coleman to the South Trail System – trails to Airplane Crash, Lost Lake, South Snowmobile shelter, etc.)
Follow Highway #3 west, you will pass through the Frank Slide, the town of Frank, and will bypass Blairmore. Highway #3 between Blairmore and Coleman is also called 20[SUP]th[/SUP] Avenue so just BEFORE entering Coleman take the first left turn (the street sign marked 89[SUP]th[/SUP] St. 20 Ave.) – located across from the C.C.H.S. High School. About 300 feet from that turn make another left turn which takes you across the railway tracks. After crossing the tracks turn right and follow 15 Ave., which runs parallel to the tracks, until you reach 83[SUP]rd[/SUP] Street . At 83[SUP]rd[/SUP] Street turn left, cross the bridge, go up one block and then turn right on 13 Avenue. From there just follow 13 Avenue in behind Bushtown (locals name for this part of Coleman) and up the hill (called the York Creek Road) which will take you to the staging area.

Directions to Frisby Ridge
Take Westside Road (just west of Revelstoke off Highway #1), approximately 4 kilometers from city centre. Follow this road, once you pass the boulder staging area continue down the road for another 3.5km. Take a left at the Y in the road an you should see the staging area on your right hand side near some power lines.
