Upshifting is fine it's the downshifting while towing that is the issue. They slam into gear, and I know that is them working properly it's not a isolated issue and a known thing to most.

That 5.9 that blew up was far from stock, modded engines that blow are a completely different story.

The mods needed to fix a 6.7 is dump the emissions, not necessary on a 5.9 because the only thing it has is a cat and it doesn't cause issues.

As I said, people who put diesel in and drive them will love them as long as they aren't leaving them stranded or in the shop 24/7 because they like the extra power, exhaust brake, and extra gears in the new auto. They base on solely on that, and not the real benefits/drawbacks of the motor. Drop the emissions you've got a VERY comparable motor, but that's not stock and not something you can compare.

And my biggest gripe is, you cannot take a 6.7 off the lot and drive it trouble free, you gotta dump the emissions. Can drive a 5.9 off the lot trouble free though.

What experience do you actually have running these vehicles? After you have driven millions of miles and maintained machines for decades on end you MAY gain some more insight but until then you are coming accross like a know it all in many of your posts weather you mean to or not. They quit making the 5.9s so you can not just go and drive one away from the lot anymore. Just a FYI, they put EGR on many 5.9s also. They used cam timing to create an internal egr system also. The 6.7 is here to stay like it or not. Mod for mod the 6.7 will also make you a lot more torque than the smaller brother. I understand your faith in the 5.9s as they were and still are an excellent engine. I don't understand your constant bashing of the newer Cummins though.

Awesome Post, repped that for sure!!!

Have to agree, Im driving my 9th Cummins and my 12th diesel truck right now. Haul loads, and pull trailers every single week, not every day, but during our busy times, like now, pulling EVERY day. I average 400kms per day, buy up to 1000 bucks in fuel a week.

Cyle, seriously, fill us in on your background regarding diesels in general, loaded and unloaded miles, that kind of thing. Then perhaps we can have a serious discussion with you regarding what you know (or dont know).

i thought I'd add my 2 cents... I've owned a 97 12 valve 5.9, a 2001 24v 5.9, a 2003 common rail 5.9, and now an 07 6.7 - 1st automatic, the others were manual. The 94-97 12v were famous for crushing delivery valve seats in the injection pump, the 1st 24v engines would stick pushrods and have the odd lift pump failure. The 1st common rail 5.9's (03 - 07 5.9's) were noted to have weak lift pumps, and many of them have central gateway module failures (yes, even the 5.9's had computers...) I am a liscenced diesel tech, and worked on most every series B engine built by cummins, all the way back from 1989. I was in the oilfield (better money) from 1999 to 2009, and returned to work in a Dodge dealership to repair trucks (diesels)
The biggest problem with any diesel is people do not change the fuel filter often enough, nor do they do scheduled preventative maintenance. This is across the board, whether commercial or private applications.

The 5.9 is a good engine, the 6.7 is better - no doubt about it. The 6.7 doesn't like to be idled much - most of the sooted up ones are work trucks or driven mostly in town. DPF and EGR delete will improve mileage and increase performance, and keep your engine oil cleaner. However, it will emit more carbon emissions (soot) into the atmosphere, which your great grandkids will appreciate.
The 48re automatic in the 5.9's is junk. No other words to describe it - the bands are the weak spot in that transmission.
The 68re in the 6.7's are the best transmission dodge has ever built - I think the shop I was working at rebuilt 3 of them from 2007 to 2010, and 2 were poor builds.

If you want to talk diesels, particularily cummins, feel free to drop me a PM.

ya the 6.7 is better but i'm still not a hundre percent convinced on it stock to stock 6.7 is more power than 5.9 but do the 5.9 up and I dont think it would really even compare I watched a 2010 3500 cummins with H&S mini maxx, 5'' exhaust, and afe intake only make 397 rwhp that is what the 5.9 makes. (kinda dissappointed a ford 6.uh oh made more power with just chip intake and exhaust as did my duramax) with just intake tuner and exhaust! Thew new cummins motor is very nice but after watching some test runs done and watched a chev and a new ford eat the dodge in a towing class it kinda dissappointed me I thought the cummins was this big towing monster well that got proved wrong! But they definately made a a good truck with that new 6.7 to bad all the new diesels have to run this emmissions crap it really does suck until you take it all off! really like the looks of the new dodges and the new tranny seems real nice! Just think they need to start bumpin up that hp and torque numbers

only problem with this test was it was 2010 dodge and chev and 2011 powerstroke. the dmax for 2011 came out with 395 hp and 765 torque were as the 2010 only has 360 hp and around 680 torque so big power difference from 2010-2011

That test is laughable. The dodge empty is not the fastest, but I will put ANY money that with a heavy trailer it will walk away from both the ford and gm. It's a ford test, so the ford won plain and simple I mean, even comparing different year trucks means a lot. And why 9,500lbs trailer on trucks like that? Why not like 15-16k? Must be because the ford probably can't pull that......

Not going to get into the 5.9 vs 6.7 debate anymore. Got into it enough times on countless forums and i've come to realize some people will blindly follow a product regardless, or simply think they are right regardless. Not saying anyone here is doing that though.

It will just be like when Cummins goes to urea injection in the non chassis cabs, a lot of people will think it's the best thing since sliced bread. When it is really the last nail in the coffin for diesels and making it even harder to dump emissions and have a real motor. But once going to the dpf, etc might as well finish off the killing with urea.......

Sure as hell glad I found a nice 07 5.9 and will not be worrying about these stupid emissions.

The funny thing I find about a lot of people defending them is saying, the people that use the 6.7 for it's intended use don't have many problems and idling them is wrong.

So, no background??? First Diesel but you know more about them then all of these guys?

From your posts and opinions my opinion would be that you are a diesel forum junkie...

If Im wrong fill us in...

It says right at the beginning of the video the weight is limited to 9750lbs due to the Dodges maximum towing capacity!
