this is for the upgraded dodge stereo in the 2009+

Currently wanting more bass out of my truck without making it look non stock and sound like a high school kids rattle box.

What you need is:

1-8" sub ~$100+
1 400 watt amp ~$100+
1 8ga wiring kit ~$50
1 stinger converter ~$20

What Im doing is taking the factory sub out of the box. sealing the bottom holes and installing the new 8" sub in its place. then the factory wiring to the existing sub is 4 wires so you can splice the converter to these. Hook up the amp to the battery, run a remote wire to one of your cigarette plugs on the ignition (some amps dont need a remote wire). run rcas from the converter to the amp and it should be good to go.

so for the price of a 10-12" sub you have a decent little set up.

I just want a little more sound and it to look stock.

You're not talking about sealing up the vent holes on the sub box are you? ...'cause that would probably be a bad thing, especially if there are no other vents on the box.

What's the new subs need for box size ??

The ports are there so u can have a smaller box

Used to be big into stereo competitions.

Had a 15 inch sub in a 4 cb foot ported box. Had 4 different length of ports I could put in and every one changed volume and or punch. Depending what I was going for is what I put in.

I think you got that backwards Tex the non-vented boxes are smaller and allow the sub to take more power.

8" probably only needs a .5 ft3 enclosure.

Whodeanie the non vented boxes are better for sound quality not max volume and require more power to be put to the speaker.

Ya I know but most aftermarket subs need a bigger box than a stocker.

And every brand is different.

Yes Ur write but the stocker box has ports. I wouldn't plug them up.
And not more power just punchyer sound. But that in turn takes more power from the amp to move the voice coils the same distance.

I never did like seal boxes.

I love dishes to rattle 2 blocks away. And not a 1/2 block away.

if you look at the stock box, it has a hole in the bottom for a bolt, it bolts the bottom of the factory sub to the bottom of the box. as well as a large hole where a plug goes that has the factory wiring. thats what i mean.

Lol, I haven't worked on this stuff in decades and guess I'm old school now. :( However, I'd argue that at volume, the lack of porting will definately affect your low end response. That said, I have no idea how to figure out what porting would be for any given sub. I never really did ever figure this out since we just used to use an old piece of software to help us figure out our enclosure designs.

in my experience a posted box is always better than a non ported and have tried on many boxes sealing the port to see the difference. sealing the port sounds nice and clear at low volumes but as soon as you put some power to it it starts to distort and you lose alot of the low end rumble you get with a port, also noticed with a non ported my sub didnt last, blew the voice coil in no time......imho if you want good sound you need to run aftermarket box and sub, those factory boxs arent made to put out any more boom than they come with factory.

and what kind of 8" sub are you putting 1400watts to ?

1- 400 watt amp haha.

the factory sub is basically a speaker........ the box size it has is fairly large, takes up 3/4 of the under seat storage.

Your right you shouldn't just plug the ports in a box to make in non ported. The box should be designed as a non ported box. It was the only way i could fit four 15" subs in a Tacoma extended cab but with 1000 watts per sub they were plenty loud and no port noise.

Do you have pics of the set-up? Where are you putting the new amp? I am guessing the stock "sub" doesn't have an amp.

I have all the requirements for this install so it would be simple since all you are running from the front of the truck are power and remote lead.

i stopped my idea! going to take back the 8. I just bought one of these

you get them at visions. I already have 2 12" subs so whatever........ it was too much work to make that stock box work with a shitty 8"

here is the stock sub and box. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/$(KGrHqN,!lkE+svDe)73BQYRcfOpQw~~48_35.JPG
