A friends sled, with Ptec 800 sounds like it's not ajusting @5500ft or higher. Runs good as u start descending or back home at lower altitude. He bought the machine last spring. It's been to the mountains twice and doesn't seem to be ajusting to the higher attitude. Had a mech go through it, everything seems to check out okay, wondering if that's why the previous owner unloaded it?? Any ideas?

East of the Rockies and west of the rest.
The DPM works off of a barometric pressure sensor moving a spool valve that pinches off the carb vents to lean the sled out. Check the plugs first and see if it is one cylinder or both that are running rich to get you in on the right track. Make sure all of the vacuum lines are hooked up and have not melted or rubbed through. This is the easy stuff to check first.

Thanks, plugs both look like there running rich. He had it at Alpine in Valemount while we were out there. Seemed to think everything was okay with lines and air box. He has a 2010 renegade that he could maybe swap out the dpm since that one doesn't go out of the province.

Alpine has worked on more than a few 'doos, I would think if they said connections look good you may have to start looking elsewhere. verify your jetting is stock and hasn't been changed for low elevation settings, maybe check the clutch components as well in case someone had it setup for a flatland sled. does it make any difference when you adjust the clickers when it starts running crappy? what clicker is it on when it works good at home elevation?

Thanks for your comments, clutch was gone through prior to his trip by a great guy that knows what he's doing. Adjusted clickers still falls on it face at hi altitude. I'm thinking that it's maybe the DPM not compensating for the altitude. Starting to think the prior owner knew that and didn't disclose it. We"ll get it figured out and post our findings, thanks again and Merry Christmas to everyone!!

on the older sleds you could take the dpm off and soak in wd-40 It just might be a bit sticky. Not sure if this would work on a 09

mine would act up when it was on a long pull and would not get past 6500rpm. worked good on the trail but under load not good. found out the bushing on the movable sheave was not too spec and was too tight. when it heated up it would bind on the shaft. had it replaced and has been good for 3 years now. Check all the clutch parts as they wear out really fast. especially the slider shoes and primary spring. i replace them every year. hope this helps.
