Im getting the sled ready for riding and have the clutches off for a good cleaning. I'm not a well versed sled mechanic but Iv always thought the flyweights should move up and down freely with zero drag, I have the top cover and spring of the primary off and the flyweights all have equal amount of resistance with no binding but they will stay half way, i pulled one bolt out and on either side of the bolt there is a oring, the service manual calls for 11 foot pounds pre load on that bolt so that is where the resistance is coming from. with the nut loose the weight flops back and forth but it is not a locknut and will not stay in place without being torqued, Im assuming the resistance is factored into the spring rate but could someone confirm this for me.
