Hey there trying to help my sister in law diagnose what is going on with her truck. Its a 2009 D max with about 200K. It was deleted a couple of years ago I am not sure to what extent.

Recently when shifting into drive sometimes the truck just sits there and does not move, other times its perfectly fine. Periodically after it acts up it shifts really hard. So basically every transmission symptom in the book short of slipping. They can get it to think again after disconnecting batteries and reconnecting.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Dealer doesn't seem to eager to help obviously being deleted and supposedly the aftermarket tuner that is in keeps deleting all the error codes.

Anybody know a solid guy in Calgary or southern Alberta?

thanks

If it was me i'd give Wajax a call and ask to speak to one of the Alison advisors. Every time i've ever dealt with them they are a wealth of knowledge and are super happy to help. Bet they would be able to help you without even seeing it.

Can you run a diagnostic with the tuner? Mine holds codes until I clear them or it loses power ie pull the power. Guess it just depends on the brand tho.
How's the oil? Color and smell?

I had one of my older (2004) d max trucks act similar to that, turned out I had a bad battery, but the culprit was the alternator.. when I started the truck, if the alternator didn’t kick in (start charging) the truck wouldn’t move. Rev it up a bit and as soon as the volt meter jumped to 13+volts it would shift and was good to go. So have maybe have your sister in law take note if it’s charging or not when it’s acting up.

Good luck.

Sounds like a hack tune... More like no tune and just have it del the codes so the check engine light does not come on...

99% it needs a tcm ( trans control module)

Allways the first thing to try and do, very uncommon to have internal trans issues, unless it's cranked right up

Does the prndl not work sometimes too??

What Tex says . Mine went as well . Take it to Dallas @ Shultz Diesel in Calgary . It's about a 1000.00 fix

Had somewhat of a similar issue with my 05 Duramax . Symptoms quite similar , but only when it was cold. Gave me some codes and an engine light every time it did it . Was able to clear them with my chip and once the oil warmed up it was fine . . Ended up being some sticky solenoids and valving in the trans . Was about a 1000$ fix . No issues since .

clamp a booster cable ground to the outside of the tcm and other end to frame ground
and see if it still does it

Tcm body is just a heat sink, no ground

The problem is they get hot, and are mounted on the rad shroud and get extra heat soaked

If fan clutch isn't locked up, not alot of air gets too it

Well so far so good they got it back and it looks like the TCM was the issue. Thanks for the suggestions all!

Like I said, 99% it was bad

I keep a old one in my tester bin at work

Plug it in and see if it's good, mine messes up when it gets hot, works fine cold
