Hey i was out riding today and the sled was running awesome some nice drift riding. When all of a sudden i went to stab it and it bogged and would only rev to 5grand seemed like it was only running on 1 cylinder. I stopped Turned the carb heaters on and it seemed to go away. Does this happen or was it just a fluke it went away when i turned the carb heaters on?

Also buddy just bought a 2004 Summit 800 151" It seems to idle at about 3000 rpm all the time. Is this just the idle setting? Sled was brought up from Utah. As well what rpms should he be looking to pull with this stock motor?

Thanks Aaron

Should be in the Doo forum,

However yes, carbs can freeze. As soon as the throttle starts to hang (doesn't let off right right away) I stop and throw the carb heaters on. It's a safety issue if the throttle sticks open. IMO, your issue might have been something else. You'll know when your sled runs on one cyclinder. It'll be out of balance, extremely low on power, sound horrible, and shake a lot (from being out of balance). ALso, won't hold idle well or at all.

Leaving the heaters on too long can also affect the performance. They can get hot enough that it starts to perform poorly.

As for the 04 Doo, it can be an exhaust leak on the carb boots. Check that first.

Is it a doo with the elevation controls/Jetting? In 04 I think they sold a bare bones one that didn't have all this extra crap. I believe they were all orange.

His is the orange model ill be letting him know to check the carb boots right away before riding it anymore.

Ya it seemed like it was running on one cylinder at one point and then i let of on it and stabbed it and it reved upto 8200 then i let of a little and it bogged out to 5000RPM. Turned the heartes on and it was all gone.

The idle almost seems erratic at some points. He is gonna check the carb boots and ypipe on it.

If it's a 04 orange he probably doesn't have all the air tubes under the dash? I believe it was a bare bones model offered by BRP. No elevation compensation.

First, check for air leaks. Especially the carb boots.

If the boots check out, make note of the idle screw setting and try to lower the idle. If it doesn't react, bring it back to where it was and do the pressure check. Do no force the adjustment.

If he's running the non-adjusting version he'll have to jet to where he rides. That particular model doesn't compensate for elevation.

His sled is the orange Model So i take it he will have to jet to where he rides. He will be riding in the edmonton area and Valemount area. Is there going to be a need to make any ajustments in between these areas seeing as he doesnt have the elevation compensator. Or will it be pretty good and might not get his max potential out in the hills? Hes going to take a look at the boots this afternoon sometime. and adjust his idle screw to 1-1/2 turns

I'm not certain how finiky the engine is to being jetted properly. I have a 06 with the Ptek/elevation compensation. By going the mountains and higher elevation it'll be running rich(er). If it's cold it'll be gaining some of that "richness" back, but likely still pretty rich. being 1500-3500ft higher (assuming E-town has similar elevation to Calgary).

I'd imagine it'll still run decent. Pack some extra plugs to be sure so if it does have issues you can still get back. Check to see if you can use the cheap BR9EC's from CDN Tire as cheap replacements. Make sure to gap to .018-.020 IF IT"S THE SAME AS MY ENGINE. They are like 8 bucks for two.

Otherwise jets are cheap. Needles can get a bit pricier. Not sure what spacers cost. I'm a dirt bike guy and my needles have clips. I've been meaning to play with my sleds jetting.

The 04 Summit is not the summit sport model. It is the highmark model which came with DPM.
