I think polaris is just getting tired of changing engines like most people change spark plugs........I really hope their new 800 works better!

Is your warranty up?

My advice is to find a new dealer. I have been in the one in PG a few times and not very impressed with them. Sales man should at least know the product they are selling. If your from Valemont i suggest Kamloops, Smithers or even Williams Lake.

After the 2010 update was done, we were told we had one years warranty on this update. Didn't ride hardly because it was end of season. First ride this year, it blew after 2 km of riding, then dealer said that we didn't have a years warranty only the original 2 years it came with. They would not warrantly their own work. Warranty turned down because they said we ran poor fuel, but we ran premium. Tried to get a hold of the head office, but all we could do was put in a complaint and they told us we had to go through our dealer. Dealer said we had to go through them, so we got the run around. Talked to other dealers and they said the fuel has no bearing on this and it was already on our file that warranty was refused.

LAWYER! after reading the last post. tell us also who was the dealer that fixed your engine so we never have to deal with them! there is crooked dealers and theer is GOOD dealers........a good dealer will help their customers......a CROOKED dealer will put thier friends engines through warrenty under another Serial number just to get warrenty! if they have to many engine warrenties they have to decline some of the honest engines........just my 2 cents! I worked at a Polaris shop and saw alot!

First failure was the computer, second failure they wouldn't say what the problem was, this last one, they wouldn't give us the details but are blaming it on fuel. It was 13 days past the prior warranty. We have heard many different and conflicting reasons why they are having problems. Some dealers say its the parts some say its the computer, either way, we cannot get a straight answer.

Ya no extra warranty on updates,I would have another dealer download your ECM as it will show total hours and miles on updated top-end.Then maybe the dealer could talk a polaris rep into a goodwill claim, they pay parts you pay labour.I had over a thousand miles on my update and tore it down before my original warranty was over pistons looked good. They don't wear out that quick, something is wrong

here is the rest of the story. 91 octane marinemarked fuel, melted piston, then engine started & rode out. now a simple piston turns into a cylinder & all piston material thru crank. 3 weeks off warranty dealer contacted polaris rep. polaris refused warranty for to reasons #1 pics of engine show major detonation. #2 out of warranty period, customer was offered extended warranty at time of sled purchase.
now i maybe stupid but does the warranty end date just mean warranty will end around 6 months after actual date? this is a high power engine why cheap out on fuel? maybe when the engine dies & seizes its time to find problem instead of the attitude '' screw it its warranty ride it to the truck if it will start''.
i am no dealer but this sounds like a good idea how it went down. i am sure with u footin the bill now you will be a little more carfull now that U PAY THE BILL. good luck try ski doo next time maybe u can pull the wool over there eyes

So since we now have it determined that it requires 91 octane, and that the sled had 91 octane in it as per "beaker". Then even if it had "major detonation, and a melted piston" it still puts this issue on Polaris, and the dealer.

Off hiway 91 octane comes from the exact same place as 91 on hiway octane. It just doesn't carry the road tax, this is why it is less expensive to purchase, as it is being used off hiway. Doesn't matter if it is Marine, OHV, ect... It is IDENTICAL fuel. Beaker if you have any relation to the dealer, as it seems you do. PLEASE do not make a stand on off hiway vs hiway fuel, it has been tried many times over the years, and every time in a court of law, it can be shown it is IDENTICAL fuel, and has been and will be denied. Even when it was used in an on hiway vehicle illegally. I am no lawyer, but I was involved in a lawsuit some years ago when this exact same thing happened, only it was a car not a sled, the company I worked for took both the auto manufacturer and the dealer to court, and ended up with a fair bit more then a replacement motor out of the deal.

Somebody is trying to avoid doing another engine, at this point I would consult a lawyer, or part it out, or swap in a mod motor. Unfortunately none of them are good options as they will all cost $$$. Just have to decide which one will get you the most reward for your money & time spent.

no relation to dealer, nor fuel expert. proven fact MARINE fuel= summer fuel- different flash point fuel in tanks not changed as much as in summer. this means u may be purchasing summer fuel for your sled. my point is if the sled is detonated it is a fuel issue. polaris reccomends non marked fuel so why run marked MARINE fuel? you should contact a lawyer it sounds like it will take sombody with a law degree to read the warranty experation date to everybody.
not trying to stir up crap but as a person that spends lots of money buying the latest & greatest sleds/quads etc i would like to see ppl cut back on the ''screw it its warranty'' mantality. this would help keep costs down on new units so manufactures don't have to factor stupidity into pricing.
getting back to topic op should work with dealer/polaris whoever it takes to repair sled to get it back onto trail. as for the fuel topic i think a little research on all our parts will show us alot. why run a 150 hp motor & try to save a few cents on fuel? on this unit that failed running 91 boat gas was the ethanol jumper plugged in or not
