Sorry to hear about your polaris problems. I used to have an outfitting biz for tours and started out running polaris. I had 34 sleds. At any given time I had at least 14 in the shop and lost my ass by not having them on trail or in the mountains making money. Had so many problems with blown motors and a bunch of other stuff that they eventually stopped replacing motors and didn't honor the warrenty... Was a really shitty situation. I have always ridden skidoo as a personal sled because I like there set up and ended up running them for the biz as well because they actually back up there product. I ended up having to take polaris to court over it. Total disaster. I will never buy another polaris product. I don't care if they come out with the sickest sled ever. I will NEVER deal with them again.

welcome to polaris.......there is a big difference between maintenance and just flat out $H!T engines.....I have no problem wrenching and doing maintenance to keep the sled in good running order, but having to do a top end 2-5 times a year is just not my thing to do. the 800 are not blowing up because of the owner........but because they have the same engineer that designed the 900......eather they run or they dont. drive it like it was stolen or dont drive it. its the mid range that is going to blow it up. let it idle or pin it......dont ride in between those points! if your 800 has not blown up yet, just wait.......it will do it when you are the farthest from home. the 800 makes the 900 look so good! they are so cheap to buy now because people cant give them away! dealer wont give you nothing on a trade in so that must say something.....next year they will be worth even less! not even worth towing them out when they die! time bomb! wonder if someone high up in polaris ever reads these threads? if so I know of way to many guys that jumped ship because of the $h!tty engines.

Mine has been good, but your right no one wants them because of the engine troubles, and it's a shame because the rest of the sled is awsome. For me it rides and handles better than any thing else out there.

might seem like an odd fix but i have heard depending on fuel quality, the fuel filters in the polaris cfi sleds are made to catch such fine particles that they plug very easily and quickly. manual calls for change the first 1000 miles than every 1-2K after. Buddy of mine has been changing his religiously and after 4500 miles not one melt down. If i am correct it was always mandatory with the most recent update and word that polaris will not warranty if fuel filter has not been changed. Just something to think about. Got 1300 miles on my 700 dragon and changed it totally eliminated a bog at 6000 rpm that just kinda came out of no where when i was in cooke city. Dealer said he has seen alot of meltdowns due to plugged fuel filters. IMO i would change it.

I guess I'm one of the lucky, third season with an 09 800 Dragon and had no issues, did the engine recall last season, told them not to do the latest flash update, had no issues with the sled at all, riding hard or in the mid range, love it !

I will be on your list as well my 09 800 , after the recall last year and the updates , and even prior to the recall I have had no problems , all i do is watch the fuel , i just found out that the esso high grade fuel contains ethanol and its not on the pump so that now is everyone as far as i know there high grade all has it , so UN plug the wires now , and good warm ups , I ve had no problems
and i ride hard and lots in the mid range

Just took my sled in for the 5th engine. $1800 out of my pocket because polaris can't fix the problem. They just keep replacing the top end and it will be good for a few rides then back to the shop. Thats how my last 3 seasons have been. Anyone know what i can do to keep my sled running because polaris has given up on it and aren't willing to do anything about it.

Bruce,

Exacty the same thing here, give Country side here in gp a call talk to Mark 780-532-2210 its a cooling issue with the cold fluid hitting the front of the pistons, so they ordered me this re-routeing thermosat from the states. I will be the frist one to try it and going to test it hard!! I have wrote e-mails to polaris but have not got a response. I ride Tumbler 90% of the time we should hook up!!! Give me a shout (780)933-0197

Lots of info on Snowest about this. The company making this product (I believe their called Redneck Racing) is calling it the Gizmo. What it does is bypass the coolant from going into your engine after you shut down for a break while your out riding. Watch your coolant temp next time you restart your sled after a break, it will drop from about 140 to 90 or so in seconds. They are saying that this is causing a huge thermal shock to the pistons and cylinders, resulting in engine failure. They might be on to something here, time will tell.
