found a 03 800 summit for sale, 151 track 1600 km for 4800 bucks. ive heard that this year was bad for blowing motors. some guys say 2000 km max. just wondering if anyone has any input...also do you think its a good deal? looking for a sled with LOW km for under 5000 in northern alberta.

That price is stupid high. That sled is worth 4000 MAX. I had a 03 ZX summit 151" and it was a great sled, it had 1700 miles when i sold it and it ran perfect and so was the compression. I only got $4700 for it last summer, they are worth a lot less now.

Prices are better now, a lot of people are trying to sell them so they can upgrade it seems, or they need to sell it. If you throw them a bit lower then they want they might take it. I'm looking to and this is what i've found. Still lots of people who won't budge but a TON of good deals. I'm looking around 5500 mark and many people are willing to drop like $800+.

There is a nice 02 800 159" ZX in calgary for $3200, tons of good stuff done to it. If it's in good shape, that is a frickening steal for that machine.

I am looking for a Rev/RT and for that price I am even considering that sled.

$5800 will get you into a 07 800 151" with only 1,300km......

Snowest has some, but that's about it kijiji has by far the most. I don't know about under 2000km. There is a nice 05, but it has 2,500 miles he wants $5,800 but I know he was willing to come down under $5,000. But I wouldn't touch the sled without a new top end. Most have quite a few miles on them. There is a 04 for $4,000 I know though, could easily have a new top end for under $5,000 though

about how many km before you think an 800 needs a new top end? i mean just on average because im sure it all depends on how hard its been riden.

Most people general rule is 2,000 miles. Many go over 3,000 without problems, but there is no second chances. If it goes, most of the time bye bye engine, over $2,000 for a new crate engine. Many people have lost engines between 2000-2500 miles. A top end is less then $500. Good investment.

We are talking km's.

$4800 for that sled is bull. Not worth more than $3000, and only then if its in awesome shape.

02 had the bad cranks. 5000 should get u a decent 04 rev chassis with relativly low miles. most 04 revs had pistons done on waranty due to flaking rings. buy a rev u will like that chassis much more than the zx. if you can find a 2003.5 rev those were good also. they only came with a 144 but have a stronger tunnel than 04 and up.

alright good to know..i was a little hesitant on getting a first year rev but it doesnt sound like they are to bad actually..will keep that in mind.

just wondering will you actually notice a drop in compression before it blows? cuz most guys ive talked to say they have good compression for the longest time ( but high kms) then one day she just blowes and thats it.

my first sign was having trouble going into reverse. second sign was a major loss in power and third sign was all the snow hitting me in the chest as my buddy was pulling me out. my 04 had over 6000 miles on it before i did the crank. i have done pistons and cylinders 3 times. 1 due to delaminated carb boot, second one was due to me not getting the airbox back on the right cylinder properly and leaned out that cylinder and third time was the c clip breaking and going through the whole motor causing catastrophic failure. I would buy an 04 again as it has been real reliable and I beat the crap out of it.

2000 miles is the magic number before rebuild for most which is approx 3300 km. So yea, your sled is probably fine, but many who went much longer needed a new crate motor.

if anything bottom end goes you wont notice anything. you could have 150 psi it will either sieze, snap a rod, or make a TERRIBLE BANGING NOISE.

sometimes if a botto end bearing is going you can hear your motor whining a bit. maybe..sometimes...

bottom end failures happen real quick. if you ever hear one of your buddies or even catch yourself saying (wow is my sled ever working awsome today) start heading for the truck because it is probobly going to blow up.
