Ive got an 02 summit 800 and im not getting any spark. one of my pull starts recently blew to peices while running, so i got a new one put it back together sled seemingly runs great. I take it to quartz sled runs great all day till about 3:30 then nothing. Ive tried grounding the plugs and found that theres no spark. Im thinking its the stator or possibly the voltage regulator?!?!? Im wondering if theres a way to check them before running to the store? Ive also read that peices from the starters can get caught up on the stator, is this possible? I made sure everything was clean before replacing the starter.

same thing hapened to me a few tyrs ago in revy but i got lucky and did not ruin my stator..unless you actually puled the stator right off and ckecked the magnets for pieces of debris there is no way of knowing if it is clean..there isn't a lot of metal in the recoil, mostly plastic except fot the retaining clip, which is probably what started the problem..

it depends on how mechanically motivated you are..you will need a puller, and an impact wrench comes in handy..it is almost easier to yard the whole engine to give easier access..

This happened to my 02 that i sold my brother a couple of years ago. we started the sleds to load them up as we were heading to mcbride the next day and the machine shut off like someone hit the kill switch and it was the stator. The recoil had also come apart about a month earlier.

So does anyone have any idea's on how to change one? I went to bow today but a shop manual was $80, i think id rather put it towards a new stator if im going to need one....

Yup, new stator, recoil and coil on top of new crank, pistons and reeds. We did a lot of work to that sled so it should be a good machine for a long time.

Ok.... so i've got everything apart, id say it definatly looks like that was my problem, theres a few copper wires showing so i would imagine that it would be arching of off the fly wheel.... Problem number two is ive made the call and found out that a new stator is $400. So if anyone has a stator for a 2002 Summit 800 W/reverse i would definatly buy one. PM me if anyone can help me out.

Thanks for all the help.

There's a few on ebay cheap, i personally would pay the $400 for a new one. As you know, there is no warning when those things are gonna crap out they just shut off.
