Basically my sleds been eating my starters. I replaced on bunch of inner parts on my old starter making sure everything was in the exact order it came off. But for some reason after letting the sled run for a few minutes it ate the starter. So i pull it off again to find a bunch of plastic shavings and realize that this starter is now completly screwed. So i pick up a new used one that looked in awesome shape. put it on on friday night before heading to quarzt on saturday, sled starts fine. New pull start seems good to go. Head out on saturday only to find that the new used pull start isn't cranking the sled over anymore. Pulled it off today sunday to find that it ate that starter to. Shavings all over the same as the first one. Basically im wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why this keeps happening. the starter cup doesn't look like it's ovalized or disformed in any way. Anyone have any ideas? I can't afford to continuously buy new starters for the sled. Is there an aftermarket one that may be better then skidoo's stock garbage?

Check the nut on the flywheel. Is it possibly loose and the flywheel commouting out a bit shredding the recoil guts? Just a suggestion...

I bet what is happening is that the "wedge" that secures the rope end has fallen out. If that is the problem, it will tear up everything including the stator. I took mine out and just tied a knot in the end of the rope.

If you have a crank bearing that is failing, your crankshaft end runout could cause the starter parts to contact the starter engagement pulley while the engine is running.
Get it checked soon, and save more dollars before the crank really lets go.

I agree with ridehard, get ur crank checked out. I have a friend who had a dirtbike and it would idle fine but kept going through stators and not rev up. Turns out his crank was broke in half. The crank would definately be a good place to check especially if it has a few miles on the original crank.

There is no obvious play in the crank or any where that ive noticted. The sled itself runs awesome, doesn't have any idleing problems and is performing just like it should. It's just the starter. I could definatly see the brake thing falling out, but don't really think it would cause the issue it did. Ill try to get some pics up of the most recent pull start i put on.

That is my thought also, 02 had rewind issues also, there was a recall on them, don't remember exactly what was replaced, new rope was put on and reflective foil on the housing to keep heat off it. You can search some doo tech stuff for Bulletins on year models, sorry, can't remember where I saw it. Talk to your Doo dealer.
