:(Hey guys my buddie just bought a 2001 summit 800 with 1400 kms. This sled is a cream puff not a scratch on it you could eat out of the enginge compartment area. Here is the problem after 2 rides and about 150 kms the sled died on him. We brought it into the shop and found no compression on the right cyl. after taking it apart we found the boots for the reed valves torn and the engine sucking ait leaning out that cyl. When my buddie went to Martin to pick up parts the shop forman came out and said that must be a 2001 800? My question is was this a big problem and I have heard the word recall if so do you think they might cover costs being a 2001?

I have an 03 summit 800..........Just bought it in december and it was also MINT....................with just over 1000kms on it........... I noticed the other day the boots(between the carb and engine) were not in good shape.........so i managed to find a good used pair to put on to get me through the season. Im glad I caught it in time as both boots had holes in them.

Im going to put aftermarket reeds on it next season...........the boots that come with them are much better and don't deteriorate like the stock ones.

For the price of over $100 for each boot.............might as well just get the V force reeds and benifit from the better throttle response etc.

So this is a fairly common problem with these boots, i think it's call delamination...........in my case the bottom of the round part of the carb had worn through the boot and only after 1000kms..........

cheers

i had this problem also (2000 miles) replaced it with V force 3's ( almost same price as stock!!) then 10-15 rides later the wring went and had to rebuild the motor  not sure if they are related but it is definitely something that needs to be looked at! sad to say but i'm selling the sled lol
