Was lookin at buying an 01 dodge 2500 cummins extended cab with a long box. It's has an auto tranny with 32500 Kms on it. Seller is lookin for 8000. It seems to be in decent shape, just minor rusting at the bottom o the rocker panels. I was just wondering if its a decent year for these trucks and what it's actually worth.i was planning on taking it in for an inspection first but just wanted to check with you guys, tbanks

i am guessing you mean 325,000kms? if so that for me is too much. vehicles will nickel and dime ya. has anything been replaced (trans/ front end work)

Yeah it's 325000. Has some front end work done to it. Exhaust and it has a 30 gal slip tank. I'll have to find out more about it as far as what parts were changed out, front end, trans, and fuel pump etc. visually it seems to be in decent shape

the kms are what scares me. for that reason alone i would run i think. the one company i worked for had a dually dodge around the same year and it was rattled to death, felt sloppy and worn out. ran ok i guess, they started having lots of issues with fuel pumps and head issues around this time then a tranny cooked.

those engines if in good condition will run forever... front end feels sloopy its gonna cost you 1200$ probably then invest in a steering box stabalizer and track bar upgrade kit... ect not sure maybe someon could run a fuel presure check on the truck... my main fuel pump went and the truck still ran... i could feel it loose and gain power as climbed hills under load... no one new anything was wrong except for me... changed the lift pump still didn't fix it... ran a fuel pressure check at same time down to 1 psi so we figured the main fuel pump was gone... i bit the bullet changed it out and ran like a top... that would be the real hidden danger that's hard to diagnos IMHOP... lots of better guys then me on here with knowledge of these trucks... probably long weekend keeping them from getting back to you... other then that i always ask to start it cold and see what comes out the back as far as smoke goes will give you a good indication.... if its burning blue the top end has been dusted and i'd run! but if its clean runs well feels tight 8k is a fair price IMOP

Yup what he said...it seems that the 300,000 km zone is where things start to go wrong like the pumps and other things and you will most likely put 1000-2500 into it to get it fixed up as they all need work it seems. buy a few years newer for a bit more cash

With that many km I would walk away unless the trans has been rebuilt and the injection pump has been replaced. Those autos in stock form are less than stellar and the vp44's aren't real popular either. Usually the lift pump goes and then the VP44 kills itself. A lot of guys only get about 160k km out of the replacement pump because they are rebuilds that have not had the computer board in them replaced.
