Just wondering if views have changed with the new technology coming out these days. Been debating getting a turbo for a while now but been hesitant because of the wieght of the four strokes, and just didnt think 2 strokes were quite "there yet". With the way some of the 2 strokes kits are starting to look, are any of you die hard 4 stroke guys moving over and completely happy?

Some smoking deals on used 4s, but they still make me nervous. Heavy, and for how reliable they are supposed to be you sure see alot of them with rebuilt engines. But Im sure one would still be a tonne of fun to have as a second sled for those super deep days. Sure like how easy and cheap it is to change out a 2 stroke engine, and obviously the wieght.

I know this topic has been beaten to death. Just curious to hear peoples opinions now that 2 stroke kits are more advanced.

I wouldn't change from what I ride. I have rode, both the 2 stroke 240hp turbo, the 4 stroke cat at 250hp, a turbo nytro at 180hp and my tapex at 290hp . They all have their pluses, my tapex has more torque than the others but I am also running more hp. The biggest enemy of any of them is the inability of the riders to leave them at a set boost. If 12lb is good 14 lb will be even better but then fuel changes should be made and a lot of people don't change to the higher octane fuel. Once you go to boost you will be like most other boost buddies, have a grin from ear to ear and a boost boner that doesn't go away. IS SUMMER OVER YET!!!

As mountian rider's we ALL seem to claim that nothing beats the STEEP and DEEP and many of us run off to the mountians on them special days of EXTRA POW, skipping work, if your privileged to do so.
I can tell you first hand from having both and if that is your vise there is nothing out there that does it better then a turboed 4stroke.....NO not even a turboed 2stroke. Comparing the two is like comparing a diesel vs gas truck hauling a load.
The broad power curve of the 4stroke allows these heavier sleds to pull through snow better then any of the lighter 2strokers. The narrow powercurve of a 2stroke caps alot of their limitations in the deep thus they rely alot on their peak power and lighter weight to do then same thing.
Unless you have spent time riding a 4stroke, this is something that most guys riding 2stroke fail to understand.
So if your a extra deep and steep kinda guy, IMO 4stroke turbo is the only way to go.
Otherwise stick to a 2stroke, the versatility of a 2stroke is better imo. Easier to ride in most all conditions (other then DEEP) and far cheaper to buy. I'm currently picking up a Polaris Pro for this winter, leaving it stock and will be used for all them low snow days. While the tNytro will be waiting for them special dream days.

If your worried about reliability, i am going on my 4th season ZERO engine issues, turboed from day one. I bought the turbo setup before Yamaha took delivery of it. Stage 2 kit 240hp.
Most that fail is because of wrong fuel and too much boost. A few, but rarely have hydraulic because of being upside down and not had a tether. Yes there is a learning curve, riding them and working on them.

BTW, i seriously believe that most people that put 4strokes, especialy 4stroke turbo's down, "as they are too this and too that", is because they cannot afford them.
I have never known anyone that agrees with those statements that have owned them, most all absolutely love them. But yes i do know of a few that sold their turboed 4stroke and gone to a 2stroke and now whish they hadn't. They are an addictive sled.

Thanks Lund. I was hoping you would chime in. I am kind of leaning in the 4 stroke direction for all of the reasons you mentioned. Plus I already have a 2010 XP that works too good to get rid of so it would probably the best of both worlds to have both.

Thats why i'm getting a Pro, the 4strokes are not as much fun in low conditions.
Word of advise, i don't know if your looking at new or used but if it was me looking at used 4strokers Yamaha look for a NYPEX....it's a Nytro with an Apex motor. The Apex motor is stronger(mechanicaly) then the Nytro motor, it will handle more boost and its tougher. It is a very popular upgrade with the turbo Yami guys. That is if your looking at Yamaha's.

I would love a Nypex but they are definitely more pricey. And understandably so.....guys have a tonne of money in them. Definitely looking at yamahas if I go that route. Debating between an apex and nytro. Man a guy can get some tricked out apexs for cheap. But is the Nytro chassis worth it?

Chris Brown has no issues running his T Nytro from what I've seen...and for what it's worth, my M1100T with Evolution Powersports Big Chute Turbo (260 ish hp on a 70/30 mix of pump 91/100LL) has been bulletproof all of last season. ( believe they are building them to 310 hp now). Ya, the 4 stroke is heavier then it's 2S counterpart, but I personally would big bore a 2S before going to a 2S turbo. Torque is addictive, big bore 2 strokes have it, and 4 stroke turbos have a bunch more. I've ridden a couple Nytros, but I have insufficient seat time to form an HONEST opinion on the chassis. I can tell you that I will not be going back to a 2S after a season on a well setup M1100T though...

I think between the Apex and Nytro is a personal liking. I rode the Rev style rider foreward chassi since 05, so it was more of a natural transition for me to go with the rider foreward standup style that the Nytro puts you in.
The Nytro is even more rider foreward then the DOO Rev or XP, not everyone likes that. But i do, its a very agressive possition and it works for me.
The Apex is more conventional style, it depends what your ok with and prefer. I like the Apex motor but prefer the Nytro ergonomic's, though the Nytro tunnels suck imo.

Love my 2 stroke turbo pro ....900 km only issue was a TPS. My apex is fun also.... But the new viper turbo sleds are going to be unreal! I put a couple good days on a prototype this winter and it handles just as good or better than my pro! You would never guess there's a four stroke motor in that chassis.

So if I had to chose only 1 sled to ride all year everyday the viper would be it.

I am also watching that sled closely, next season will tell. I heard Cat has had chassi issues with it. Same chassi.....don't know????????

Correct, i guess it can't be worst then the Nytro chassi...haha...except we have refined the Nytro very well. Shops like CR-racing have done an increadible job in making these Yamaha's work in every way.

BTW the new Viper will not be available as a mountian sled, that means doing a build... tunnel replacement, skid ect. Unless you went with a Cat and i think it might not be available with a Yamaha motor either....not sure, i thought it would be but then told no.

If you look at Viper 144, it has the correct rear suspension for the mountains. All that is needed to be done is a track, rails, and tunnel extension change. There are several companies who make replacement extensions for the cat. Searching for the best deals, you should have the length and paddle of your choice for under 2500.00 with you doing the installation. Personally, I think a 180hp, 153 peak or ascent M viper would suite my wife very well! :S)

On the 2stT vs 4stT, I have had a Vector, Apex, Doo, and Cat M925, all turbo. I have ended up with a big bore pro lite. All the pluses of the 4st, with the weight of a natural 2st.

That said, I still long for the 4stT My Doo 1200 was my favorite. I will try to sneak a ride on someones turbo Viper this season (Randy???? help!) and see if I can build a pump gas M Viper for '15.

I have a s/c apex and a M8 and they are both a lot of fun but if u are not a young guy in good shape u will find that u will get tired very quick after a day of riding a 4s. My apex is 200lbs more than my M8 and I find that my M8 rides better in the trees than the apex and vice versa on the open hills. The biggest problem I have is keeping the front end on the ground on the steeper pulls but it kicks the M8's ass all day long on open climbs but my balls aren't like these kids now aday.

Deaner, I might be selling my turbo apex, 270 mcx kit. Most of the sled is custom. Let me know I will shoot some pics your way.

deaner it depends what you are coming off of for a sled, I myself find the nytro twitchy and unpredictable. The apex is more my sled. These turbo 4 strokes rock, plain and simple, your elbows will ache after a day of riding and the deeper the powder the more they will ache but your grin will never leave. Whatever you choose enjoy it.

I don't own one or don't got much time on any of them. But from what I here and read that the key to them both is good maintenance. And when it's running good just leave it don't play with boost levels and fuel settings. For some reason some guys just have to play with them constantly then that's the guys that have trouble. Any way you go I think you will have fun and I want one to

I own 4stroke and 2 stroke turbo. My 2 stroke I always worry something is going to break. My 4 stroke sat for 2 years, when my 2 stroke broke down yet again, I pulled out old reliable. It's still a turn the key and go sled after all these years. If they where lighter I would by another one in a heart beat.
