What I don't understand is that when a sledder dies in an avalanche the media is always looking to blame someone.
How come when these heli skiers break the number one rule,one person on the hill at a time.Why does the media never say anything about this.
In all the advertisements and ski videos,they always show a large group skiing all at the same time.
In this last avy three were burried and two unfortunately passed on,they did say there was ten in the group,could have been way worse.

Good point Dave! Maybe the "footprint' isn't quite as huge and they are just skimming the top. Just a though; opinions?

you really need to ask why the sledders get more press.....

what makes for a better headline????

an underground event with 200 people, videos of drunken promoters and 30+ burried or.....

2 heli skiiers????

as far as skiing with multiple people on the slope; they are with a guide who is in the terrain every day, does the snow science and knows the snow pack.

I heli ski every year and not every run do the guides give you the go ahead to do this. Many times they will say 1 at a time.

driving back from allen creek we seen the ambulance sitting at the heli skiers driveway just south of valemount.so i figure the heli skiers were from there. the avalanches slid in numerous places,we watched 5 sleds go up a shutte and then a slide happened,but all sleds came back down the shute driving over the avalanche,at least nobody was under it.

Did you go and speak with them about poor decision making and how it might have affected them or their buddies if they had been in the run out zone or if one of them had got caught in it? I know sometimes its hard but often these people are just uneducated and do not know the risk. Especially after the chute slid its important to identify where a poor decision was made. They may not agree with it, but they will hopefully think twice the next time they try something like that again.

I heard the solicitor general mention that they are thinking about imposing fines to people who are going into the backcountry when ratings are high, does that include all users or just sledders. .

as 90% of the season is considered "HIGH" what do they plan to do shut the area down for that period..good luck with that SG
