Well i will say the sled i rode on the weekend wasn't the machine i put away last year, but none the less I must live in an alternate universe if you think your gonna see 80 km track speeds in three feet of total bottomless pow from the 174. But i guess you guys will be doing it. Good luck with that..

Thats good news for the 174, but i was all into this thread till the comparison against the turbo doo, this is where i had to loose interest, come on guys!! My aerocharged xm last year would see 62-65 mph track speed at any given time, and trust me ground speed was pretty fast.. But anyway keep the thread going real or not..lol

I remember a turbo pro you built with a 174 3" spinning almost 70mph on the speedo with me on it.

I think I read somewhere that they never compensated for 7 tooth drivers on the speedo for the T3, that's why the track speeds are reading 10% higher than the 13 and 14 xm ........

If they haven't niner it should only be about 7% .
This is the whole problem with track speeds as you cant get anything true unless you are right there and seeing for yourself in the conditions at that time. I have switched sleds with guys that said they are getting X numbers and wasn't even close to what they had just claimed. Weird? lol
Track speed on hard pack with 6 inch's of snow is a lot different then in waste deep as we know. Same as a lot of times riders forget to subtract the 7% for smaller drivers but sounds way better with out?

It is always interesting how these threads quickly turn into a pissing match, remember sledding is fun! I can understand the old school mentality of track spin, but it is just one element. What you have to realize it is not just how fast the track spins, it is also about the hook up. I usually make the comparison between a 450 dirt bike with 55 +hp and a trials bike with 24 hp, the trials bike will out climb it from the bottom even though it has way less power and track speed, the problem is when a 450 loses traction the power is going nowhere, a trials bike hooks up even on the wettest roots so it climbs. The Summit with t3 package works because of the huge footprint and that it DOES NOT spin out like a 154 does....as I said since last year the best part of the T3 is it will get more riders who thought a 163 would not turn or work because it won't turn and because of less track speed than a 146/154, but it does and so many guys will be confirming that as the season moves on. Don't get me wrong, I also love the spinning track speed of a 146 and using the terrain, other tracks and the throttle pinned to get up in the deep, both are awesome....really pick one and go riding and remember have fun!!! This is my favorite time of the year as all those guys who said i was lying to sell them sleds finally get out and their doubt is turned into a big smile. It was hard not to let people know the sleds would be lighter but as I always say to people, "those who know won't say and those who say, don't know, so remember that when you hear about your bro saying what is coming for the future..happy riding everyone, I am still on my trials bike with hopefully some snow int he forecast.....boo hop for me!:bike:

If that is the case than the track speeds on the speedo should read about 47-50 mph with the 3". When I finally got mine clutched right that's what I was seeing.

With the lighter track and better cooler clearance I would hope the t3 is getting the same, if not better.

I would of thought the speedo would of been cal 'ed properly from the factory.

Like norona has suggested it's more about the GPS speed on top of the snow.
It's what I have always said about the 174 is the GPS speed picks up when in deeper snow compared to shorter tracks.
Higher track speeds in a 154-163 but you cruise right buy .

Exactly. And that's the biggest thing I noticed right away was my ground speed uphill. Maybe a slower trackspeed but higher ground speed and it will actually gain it rather than lose it and much faster aswell

Any you T3 guys notice the turning radius being much less than your previous XM's.
Some fellas over on another forum complaining about it.
They really like the spindle change but not the shortened radius.

Yes that's very true and have experienced it, but I know you know this, And experienced it.

My 2011 with the 3" would only peak at 45 mph track speed and would wander down to 38mph. Ground speed was way better than a sled with a 2.25 at that time. After reclutching my track speed was more consistent at 47-50mph on the speedo and my ground speed picked up even more.

Guys have done the 3" tuned the chit out of their sled to get them to work. Track speed indication is a great tuning tool, if a fellow gets about 45mph and cycles the throttle on a pull and only recovers to 38mph than there is work to be done to the clutching.

I've said this before that a 3" will exploit bad clutching.

Never noticed other than the expected extra push from the 174. But never thought to compare to my 14

I was just messing with you guys. I haven't heard anything about the speedos being out. But the only track speed I care about is mine. To me it's the only way you know if changes you made are working. With all the changes I've made to my sled I only picked up about 5 mph. It takes a lot of work to gain track speed. But you need to know your starting point. I have heard some crazy stories about how good this T3 is from real riders. I can't wait to try one.

With the steep approach angle of the track are you finding them to trench more than is desirable Fernie?
