Well my friend has a zl Arctic cat and today we started it drove it than it started popping like blowing great big holes into the snow sounded like mini shotgun blasts could barely drive it, it'll still go but not very healthy sounding what are the symptoms of this popcorn popper

this is pretty much identical to what's it's doing

Is your friends sled carb or efi. They had both options still in 99. That sled in the video needed the spark plugs tossed in the garbage and a new set installed.

Use a good multimeter and check the resistance of all the coils in the stator. My farther in laws zl 500 motor cooked the stater and it backfired and ran like crap before it completely quite. .

Keep it simple to start with try a new set of plugs, I was working on a Polaris 500 doing the same thing and it was one bad plug.

Put brand new plugs in same thing, I did notice a hole in the boot connected to the carb is this a likely thing? Or most likely the kill switch? We had it running good than it started this and yeah

Boot or connected to the carb on the engine side or the air box side? If it was on the engine side this would be causing an extremely lean condition in that cylinder and is certainly something that must be addressed before the engine leans out to the point of melt down. If the hole is on the air box side it is not as crucial, but should still be addressed so the velocity threw both carbs stays the same and the air box also acts as a filter of sorts.

This is the wiring and kill switch internals from a 98 zl 500 or a 99 powder special. Your buddies is likely the same. Just unwrap the handle bar pad and unplug the two pin connector. The kill switch and throttle switch will be will not work but the key should still shut off the sled.

The wires are purple and brown if you can't tell from the picture.
You should also drain the carbs and make sure you don't have crappy fuel in the machine. I have 2 complete wiring harness that would fit that machine if there is a broken wire somewhere.
