My friend is on his 3rd motor on his 18 cat in 3000km. If you call that reliable then...

He is happy though, because it is not nearly as big of pile of chit as his 16, or 14.

Cat owners have low expectations LMAO

Stock engine, lives in Revelstoke rides hard ext. Could be just an anomaly but how many of these new Ctecs are out there with high KMs?

No one around Revelstoke rents them? These thing might just start blowing like a heroin hor, too early to say IMO

The Suzuki engines were reliable, but all kinds of other issues with the sleds (from what ive seen, your results may vary)

Fair enough. Was just curious if he had anything done to it. It is pretty early to call them reliable at this point. The Suzuki is a proven engine. These ones still have to prove themself.

It has a can on it, but that is it.

As far as I can tell the C-Tec2 is built the same as the Suzuki. The C-Tec2 only uses one spark plug per cylinder other than that They look externally identical. Maybe it is too early to tell but I’m sure guys have more than than 200kms on these engines which is more than some Liberty 800 Polaris’ were lasting.

What where the root cause of the failures?

I know a fella that lost a motor in his '18 cat as well. I believe he said there was lots of scuffing on the pistons if I remember correctly. The Ctec oil is too thin in his personal opinion. He's running apv in it now

Did he get warranty? How many kms did he have on engine? I’m pulling the trigger on a ‘18 Sno Pro over the summer. Just want to know if I should keep my ‘13 or sell it. I think my dealer will be good to deal with.

Haha no doubt.

Did a rodcome through the block or something that he got a whole crate engine and not just a rebuild?

He definitely didn't pay for his motor, demo sled. Cat is usually pretty good with warranty though

Sled had less than 100km on it and he was like WTF I want a crate motor. So he got one.

First engine Cat sent was NFG, so they had to send another. The dealer treats him good, gave him a demo sled ext.

Thats what keeps him coming back to Cat I guess. Having a good dealer goes a long way in this sport.
