here is a video from this last weekend, i took a buddys 860 174 by 3 inch up a shoot, and she was pulling 8000rpm, but there was some type of ticking noise, but turned out to be a bad belt, his track speed was 44mph and he runs a robbie chaincase mod

i run a 880xp as well and did the pull right before with it, it has a 163 by 3 inch, track speed was 57mph but that is with the smaller drivers, so it corrected to 51mph, and it felt like a lot more speed

fred nice video where abouts is this.

why was the 860 only pulling 8000rpm?? they like to be a bit higher from my findings, also i found 2 identical sleds with same mods almost every time the 174 will outclimb the 162, ride with the same setup and the 174 will beat my 162 every time, but not any more now that i run the 174 also.:d

video was from upper witefish, little secret area we call hidden valley

will be adding more video tonight as well, we were at graves creek the day before

as for track speed on the 860 174, we did a test, just after that video, where we ran 8200, 8000, and 7800 rpm, we found the best track speed at 8000 rpm

another thing i seen with the 174 setup was that the belt allinment, primary temps were much hotter than mine, sizzing hot, combined with the bigger track could not help in performance

860 needs to be at 8200/8300 and holding through the climb. As far as the 163 i have yet to see it compare to the 174 as you say, lightening 1000.
Run the 2.5 174 with 880 and works quite well in comparision to other sleds out there.
The 860 that i had last year works about the same as far as track speed.

Each to ther own as far as the 880 and 860 . Have had both and quite abit better than stock if set up right.
My self i dont see the big difference between the 860 RKT and the 880 BMP if both are pulling the same RPMS that builders request.

Just my findings so far. Happy tuning

pfi572, you gotta understand, freds not saying All the 880's will better the 860's.....just HIS 880. Yours and most others are just ordinary 880 s compared to freddys. Get it right eh . Holy crap, imagine how bad he'd paddle the 174's a$$ if he were to go to a 154. LOL

Put the big boy track in this evening. Holy crap is it ever tight at the front of the tunnel. It defys logic that these things don't get bogged down with snow jammed in the tunnel and track and that small drivers, stock gearing, stock clutching, and HP can make mid 40 mph track speeds.

from my measurement on the 2.5 there should be almost no clearance on the 3"?

there is just as much room in the tunnel at any place with the 3" and 7th drivers as the 8th 2.86 x2.5 track, actually i think there is more with the 3 " ill get pics if anyone wants to see, i have a brand new 174x3 in my 2011 right now and there is 1/4 to 3/8" at the tightest spot guaranteed, and that is directly above the drivers, there is lots of room in the front at the cooler like 1-1.5" up front, it isnt that tight at all.

I just can't see there being .25'' clearance at the front of the tunnel with the 3''. I had the same drivers when I had my 2.5 and i couldn't see 3/4'' clearance then. If I didn't hear of a million people doing this and saying that it works then I wouldn't be trying it at all. Thanks to the brave few that ignored their better judgement and all the skeptics and gave it a shot.

The first pic looks like its at the front cooler. Lots of clearance here for sure, but the very front of the tunnel, on top of the drivers there is basically no clearance (maybe 1-3mm) for about a foot.

I think I have everything ready to go. Going with the extended chain case and 8 tooth avid drivers. Powering up with an SHR 860. I have to think the extended case is a better option than dropping drivers

easily 3/8 of a inch i wish the pic would show up better but there is lots of room, ive ran these tracks in all my xps and they fit no problem i dont know why yours has so little room, are you running the 3pitch 7tooth drivers from avid?

also if you are running the 7th avids you may want to consider running the 22 tooth top gear, you will pick track speed with this ratio which is still at 2.44 i think, stock is 2.33 with the 8tooth 2.86. be sure your chain is in good cond too these 3" tracks are a bit harder on chains, carry a spare if you have one just a word to the wise.

Yes, i have the 7t avids. have you run this gearing with a stock motor? I have a shockwave adjustable helix, from what I understand, this is like being able to change the gearing all day long to find what works for the snow cond. that day. So no need to change the gearing right away.

the secondary will never compensatefor gearing, and yes i run the 22tooth, i am possably going to try the 23 on top one day, but for now with the 174 ill try the 22 out more, my motor is stock except for a 14.1-1 head, y pipe, pipe, can, timing advanced 3 degrees, i run 50/50 ave/premium. i use the tied team also. this sled runs real hard, i had a 2011 e tec and i think this one is making more power, can pull 2 12mm set screws extra in primary over the exact setup on the etec. remember the chain thing!! I ran a single angle shockwave on my 2010 did not like it, was going to try the dual angle one but said screw it and just got another team instead. I run the teams in all my xp sleds and never have blown a belt or anything.

Wow that didn't take long to line up. I would have done the extended chain case but didn't want to spend the money on it when so many said it would work with out and it does. Drop me a line when you get it done and see if I can get out. That sled will rock with that set up. :d:d
