I just know I will receive some WTF responses to this but here goes anyway. I NEED to disable the QE on my Renagade. The unit is ridden almost exclusively in the big dunes with the odd blast on the frozen lake and some lease road running etc. No big mud for this old guy. The QE causes some "interesting" handling quirks when it hooks up and I don't need the added challenges. Anybody had the diff apart and done this mod?

Oh by the way it's a full on 1180 which adds to the issue.

You could pull out the passenger side axle and chop off the end of it? The splines on the end drive the pump for the clutches, but I think you will lose the snap ring that keeps the axle in. I will have to check my old ones in the garage. The earlier viscos were also bolted together and not a welded and sealed unit.

My brother has a diff from a 2013 with the slow qe. It had only 170 km on it when he changed it out for the fast 2014 diff. that would work too. $750

Could just pull the drive shaft out between the trans and the diff?

if you take your visco apart, there is a small hole with a tiny metal ball pressed into it where they fill the "piston" with viscous fluid. drill that out and the silicone will come out. no more visco lok

Thanks Teeroy sounds like the plan. Neat to see somebody from my old home town helping out. Had a few scary moments at big speeds with the QE locking when one front wheel loses grip and the unit heads in the direction that the wheel with traction is pointed. If my Yamaha had bigger suspension and another 60 horses I would ride that all the time.

my friend races sxs's and the locking diff is a nightmare. For his maverick he has a company in the US building a diff that is always open with a manual lever to lock it. Sounds like you have a plan forward post above though!

Thank you as well. Yes there are switchable diffs available but at significant cost. As I have no need for a front locker, I'll pass on the mechanical locker.

As an aside if there is anybody who wants a QE out of my 2012 1000 XXC, I would consider a trade for a moded old visco or whatever.

check with Troy Forman in town here, Forman Muffler. he's on here as "Troy" but you could just give him a call at his shop. he has boxes of Can Am parts, I know for a fact he's eaten up more than a few viscos. he might have one laying around that won't lock anymore
