Mine did the same thing well still does. i put a rubber band around the spring to stop it from coming into the ring gear. But that being said i cant use the e start. But the problem is in the starter its self theres a spring that has came weak inside.

That has become a common issue with the '09's... There is a guy on dootalk that sells a heavier spring for $15 US... Here is his information... I have done 2 sleds in our Group and this seems to have fixed the problem...

Doug,

I do have them available. Send $15.00 to paypal account address eddie738@comcast.net It fits the XP.

Subject: Electric start Spring

I saw a post on dootalk that you are selling the heavier spring for the Electric start... I was wondering if you still sell these and would it fit on an '09 XP???

Thanks
Doug

I think I am having the same symptom - starter gear is sticking out after a start and dragging on the clutch. Is this the fix for this problem? (heavier spring?)

I had the same problem on my 08 and BRP replaced the whole starter on warranty. Didn't make sense to me but I wasn't paying…:D

Seems that the heavier spring should be the fix. For $15 it seems like a win/win situation.
