Thanks tips.

Find me an 08/09 Club Cab short box SLT or LTZ lower mileage yet?

If I do not get the pricing on the 09 I am looking at I might be giving Doug a ring.

Ya Doug's truck is nice.

And u know the old fart didn't bag it.

It does not change the RPM at all. It simply cuts out 4 cylinders. You cant hear it or feel it, you can see it switching if you have that screen selected in the drivers info center. I will admit the 4:11 are nice for towing heavy loads but to me this is what it comes down to. How often will you have a trailer on vrs. not. Save the gas every time you are not towing and go with the 3:73's IMO. If you are towing every week go with the 4:10s. In the 6.0L the best I ever got was 13L/100. That was the most I could get out of it and that was doing the speed limit to Kelowna for 7 hours. This was the main reason I went back to a half ton. Now i'm averaging 13 in the city/highway with out pussy footing it. That's money in my pocket. I'm the first one to sacrifice a little performance for gas economy. Do I have to drive the 5.3 a little harder to pull the 8000LBS trailer, yes. Will I burn way more gas pulling that trailer compared to the 6.0, yes. Will I make up for it when not towing, easily. Like I mentioned before with only pulling a 3000lbs trailer, seriously go with what will save you the most in gas in the long run. 3000 Lbs is nothing for weight. The 6.0 city/highway (I live in Airdrie and work in Calgary) was averaging 18/19L/100. Hope this helps....
The AFM is not a selling feature. On an unloaded 2010 1/2 ton, it will kick into 4cyl mode if the wind is at your back, cruise set at 95 km/hr, and a slight downhill with the truck unloaded....it's basically a waste of time. LOL.

The thing I don't like about AFM and the 6spd is that it always wants to be a gear higher than it should be so when you need some power and step on it it takes forever by the time it drops two gears and turns on all 8 cylinders.

I am aware, I first saw it on here and happend to see it tonight on kijiji. If it was a club cab I would be bringing you a cheque tomorrow. Jess has even said she would be happy with the extra cab still as it has the spilt rear back seat for storage on road trips. Its not totally out of question as I have looked into color match line x for the deck! Under the deck storage is slightly sacrificed though.

Highfly - don't the 5.3's have the lean cylinder option, or whatever GM calls it? Sounds like that is where you RPM's go at cruise.

Here's a little more information: the best I have got with fuel economy is 12.8 from the lie-o-meter downhill on a nice day to Fernie. I doo get around the 15 mark on a quiet drive to Ft. Steele Esso. Loaded with 2 sleds and our gear, I have gotten 18 to Revy/Sicamous with weather being nice weather being ****ty it is up to 21-22 and that I mean slushy road conitions).

With the extended cab, there is lots of interior storage for our gear/clothing for longer trips to the coast, Revy, etc. and there would be room for the dog. I will admit, under deck storage would be lacking for hauling the cheap Alberta gas out to your play areas. But hey, bite the bullet and help the high rollers in gov't when you come out here!

All servicing has been done by a GM dealer: front diff just serviced, rad just flushed and fluid replaced, oil change/lube just done, tires were new this spring and the winter studded have another season on them. Like I said before, 2 sets of rims and a set of chains will be included cause they won't fit the new truck, and a brand new windshield without a chip in it!

This truck is a beauty...........and all you would need, IMHO, would be some SuperGluides on the middle of the ramp for loading your bikes!

My 09 5.3 3:73 has been some what of a dog from day one but has never had an issue, I decided to try the Blackbear Tuning option and all I can say is wow! My mileage is now stupid, I went from 15/100 average to 9/100 on the highway if I do 100. He removed my afm and flex fuel crap, also changed some other things that were a bit out of speck. I went from around 540 average per tank to around 680 to 710 if I baby it. Towing though its still not that great but who cares, it dailys more then it tows.

410.. or hell regear it to 456 and buy whatever ratio. The LY6 and L96 6 liters with L92 rectangular port heads are a gutless turd that need all the mechanical advantage they can get. Trans ratios are great to speak of until you realize at 100 on the highway the low first gear of the 6L90e doesn't mean a whole lot whwn all you have is third, fourth and 2 useless overdrives. My vote.... buy a different truck lol.

Its way better than it was. My Dad's 07 i think it was would not kick in at all as you said. My 13 I can drive 60 in town and stay in 4cyl mode continuously. It's gotten way better.
I just got back form Edmonton. Filled up when I left. I used 1/4 of a tank to get home, averaged 11L/100. And I have around 800-900 LBS of cargo in the box. Lots of times on the flat is was in 4cyl mode.

You can feel it, at least I can. Every planet in the solar system has to stay in perfect alignment, otherwise AFM will, kick off. Pretty flat with next to no throttle and downhills.

In fairness gets better mileage than my 07 Classic with 5.3l though...

OP in a similar boat as you. Need a bigger cab and want more payload so a deck becomes an option. I think I'll stick with a gas job too.

In the 1/2 ton world why don't more folks go with the 6.2 ?
I have had one earlier in a Denali SUV and good power ( 403 hp ) with great fuel economy.
Now have another SUV with same engine and a pickup and both are good on fuel and the power is okay also.
They make a 1/2 ton max that has the higher tow rating.
Son in law just went from a 2006 6L to a 2013 max crewcab and the difference between the two trucks with the same 3:73 ratio is a lot.
Power pulling same trailer and fuel economy is a lot better.
My 2 cents.

If I was in the market for a half I would get the 6.2. It's a no brainer.

Unfortunately I am not in the oil and gas industry and do not have disposable income to go out and just get any truck. Ontop of that I keep a truck for 5 years plus. Current one is almost 7. The previous one 5.

Unless I happen on a steal of a deal for a Classic LBZ or early NBS duramax I will be looking at gas vehicles. Having had one be my main tow vehicle for many years doesn't deter me. Would it be nice to have a diesel? I feel confident in saying yes. Is it in my price range? Only when a great deal falls from the sky.

Thanks for all the feedback. Helps kill off the day.

i hear ya. I've had my 1500 for three years now...will have it for another 1.5-2. It's a good truck don't get me wrong...it drives nice, half decent on fuel, but the extended cab is getting a bit tight with carseats. My own fault, but I couldn't find a crew with the options that I wanted (towing pack, and dual climate) on the island. It was a good deal (32k) but I need something bigger and with bigger payload. Want the option of putting a deck on and be a bit better at hauling the travel trailer when we do take it out. I'm pretty well looking at the same era of truck as you in a couple years. I'm not interested in buying new either. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

But. I don't love the ride of the 2500's. I drive one for work sometimes and it's like driving a brick on marshmallows I find. My half is way smoother for driving every day.

We'll see!

I have looked at 4 trucks this week. 07 full load clubcab LBZ. Just for curiosity. It's a decent price if someone wants a moderate mileage LBZ for $19000 out in Strathmore. Brand new crate ally under it at the gm dealer. Just wasn't a clean enough truck for me. Had a slip tank, leveled, big winch bumper and winch.

And two 09 full load gassers. Under 100,000 for $21000. What a deal I thought. They have 3.73. Of course all the other trucks are $6000-7000 more for same year and 4.10's. What gives!

Last gasser is the same Full load ltz gassed that the dealer isn't interested on moving so far as they aren't moving on the price at all. At $29000 its to much for a what will be 5 year old truck.

Back to searching.

You are finding the same as I did with used market.
Anything that is around the 75000 Kms and clean IMO they are to much $ compared to new.
With all the rebates and 0% for purchase or 2.9 for lease it it didn't add up for me.
$7500 rebate
$1000 loyalty
Then add what dealer is going to take off and it isn't worth buying something used.
Adams Chevrolet in Wetaskwin treated me very well.
Good luck in your search as I didn't have any in the used department.

I did start looking at New last night. Same thing, 0%. But a 2500HD even left over 2013's are $45k-50k and gets me into a longer term truck payment which I am trying to avoid. It's not out of the question as I will have a great warranty and something new but seems like such a pill to swallow.

Their is no such thing as 0%.

Correct to some extent.
Costs $2500 in this case as if you pay cash it is $10000 off.
Other times I have seen you pay cash or take the 0% and same price.
I would not us my money in that case .
Even at a cost of $2500 over 36 months isn't that bad.
If you took the amount you would pay in cash and put it in savings it would wash out out or even be ahead .
Back to topic.
