This was posted on another forum and I though It should be shared for those that have 09 XP's First paragraph is not my wording, posted by someone in revy.
Had a new XP in the shop today with a seizing sliding half. First day out the clutch would shift up and seize solid with the belt half way up the sheave. Customer said if he let it cool down he would hear a bang and the clutch would open up. We had a hard time getting the half off and never could get it back on , this bushing was way out of spec right from the get go. How could have BRP let this get by them and is any one else seen this????
You would think after the last 2 years of clutch problems they should be paying closer attention.

This paragraph wrote by me
Now I went out the shop today and checked mine as well (I have video of this happening as well) Had it on the stand and after the engine warmed up I took the engine up to shift rpm and when the engine was going back down to Idle the clutch didn't appear to be opening back up so I hit the brake and the engine stalled, about 1 min later the primary opened back with a bang, And it does this every time I open the throttle.
not even a mile on the sled and it had to go in for warrenty work already.
What thew heck is going on in Que!!:realmad:

The problem with the primary clutch was the shipping oil, causing the clutch to stick, there could of been road dust, belt dust or something causing the problem to occur, the dealer cleaned the clutches and the primary works fine now I tried it out already, no binding or sticking, good to go!!

Do what I did and get rid of the problem all together. Since I got rid of the sled all my problems went away. I lost faith in BRP. I have owned many skidoo products all of which were great until I got into the rev chassis in 2004. Bending flying nuns, belts blowing, pos clutches, bottom end bearing failures, engine lights constantly on, drive shafts breaking, tracks delaminating, etc. I actually experienced all of the above. Maybe it was just bad luck but the only BRP products that I will ever own again will be the 2003 and earlier machines. I still don't know why people are supporting a company that cannot fix its problems. This is just my opinion.

Last year never blew a belt in 1500km running 100hp more than a BRP product.
Also only blew out the belt dust before every major ride, never pulled a bolt on the clutches all season. BRP does need help! There is no excuse for their incompetency. I ran Summits for 11years, never had any majors but always something going on with them.
Enough was enough

We took delivery of two 09 Summit X 163's 10 days ago.:d I pulled the belt guard and noticed a film of oil "sprayed out" of the primary clutch on both sleds. I took them both apart and found a fim of oil all over them. I completely disassembled both primarys and washed all of the parts in soapy water.:beer: I noticed the same problem in the bushings and crank taper bore as I had last year:confused:(on 13 out of 18 sleds I took apart for buddies:mad:)...one groove in both bushings and the taper bore. The small bushing is too tight with this groove...cleaned up to get the clearance:beer::beer::beer:...all is good now.
Had to clean the belts as well. Overall very disappointed that between dealer set up and me driving 27 feet into the trailer the belt residue on the primary was heavy and I know both primary clutches would have stuck.
I do this every year on my and buddies sleds as a ritual anyway along with numerous other checks and mods. Just can't believe that arguabley the best sled on the snow still has these little problems. Thankfully no loose or missing thread in weights this year!
FYI ramps 441, spring purple/green.
Like the new air prefilter...will be easy remove and "crunch" clean in your hands and get back to the POW.

Let it snow!

Just got back from two days of riding at Quartz Creek. Sled worked flawlessly...looks like the new dual angle helix is spot on. Need more snow.
