So im now on my second rewind on this sled (08 XP W/ 872 BB) replaced it beginning of last year and already the thing is skipping the first cog and catching the second so im wondering if anyone knows of replacment one that will be a bit stronger. i understand that with the high compression its gonna be a bit harder on it but i cant seem to find anything other than the stock. something with a bit less plastic junk would sure be nice anyone know of such a thing.

I think the Mach Z 1000 rewind has metal internals instead of plastic. Google away

Something to keep the heat away helps also.
Reflective tape on the rewind.
It's the heat that screws the plastic parts.
When running stock muffler it seems to be worse .

100%

My 14, first ride got to the top. Went to leave and wouldn't catch.... Left both doors open and cool for 10 min... Balm it works again

Got down, stopped at dealer... He said there's a few doing that, no fix yet

Took sled home and added heat tape to pull cord cover ( I recall my rev's had it) , still the same pull cord, 5000 km later

I had trouble with recoils on my 14 as well as a 08. I always pull the rope gently to engage and then give it a good rip. The heat tape does seem to help some but they still seem to get gummed up after some amount of time that I think it helps after some heavy use to take it off and give it a good cleaning. It seemed like once it was gummed up enough the cog wouldn't throw out far enough and when you go to give it a rip after engagement it would slip past the first tooth it was hooked on and then it was all downhill from there. I had heavy mountain use on both these sleds and had some blown belts on both and it looked like belt dust combined with whatever factory lube was in there that had gummed them up. Not sure what a guy should do when putting it back together as far as light lube or no lube? Anyone know?

Like Pfi said. Heat tape on outer side. I went through 2 before I covered it in heat tape. Still have the same one on since.

Use the RT 1000 rewind, that all I have ever used on my smogger OEM engine and they last a long time and has metal dogs inside.

They use too much grease on the parts.
I take mine apart once I get it and wipe all the excess off and just leave the tiniest film of grease on. I also put the heat tape on, just in case.

BRP stopped using the metal parts, because if they fail, all the metal bits go into the stator magnet and royally mess it up.

as said previously, many go through starters because of harsh engagements.
