so yesterday on my way down the trail my engine siezed, so i pull off the side pannel and there is grease all over and around my primary. im assuming now that the pto side bearing has failed. is it possible that i may only have to repalce just the bearing? or is it likely that there will be more damage? has anyone had expreince with this??

i think the pto bearing can be repacked from the out side and the seal put back in. not sure how well it works, we had on last year, still holding up good, just dont overpack it, once it gets hot it will push out good luck

mines been spitting grease since day one new, have not replaced it yet. Probably looking to do the bottom end after this season, going to break 32-3400mi.

crank issues are very common with doo800's the famous grease idea.:p

just as a heads up i would look at r&ring a crank in a BRP800 at least every 2 years. My 2010 had 2500miles(Rental from usa) on it when i bought it and the crank was going out on it. replaced it and will be putting on the same milage and pulling it down at 5000miles. or better yet just sell the sled and buy a M
I have one of these 2 and i don't even think about cranks.:)

good luck

Pull the 4 bolt cover and seal, re-squirt some in and replace seal. I would think though after a certain milage the grease is somewhat old and would need to be replaced. My though on the squirting grease is that the crank runs circular right, throwing the majority of grease to the outside of the bearing. Probably just excess or just minor amount when it liquifies once hot. So i would not have the though in my head that it is pouring out haha.

Yea just got back from 4 days in new denver, gonna head out on the 15th? You up for a ride then?

It would be nice to just replace a bearing....but, its not that simple. Once the crank has been heated, its toast. You have to buy a new crank...new bearings, iso-flex grease for 2 bearings, seals, gasket.

$1500-$2000 when your done....

how hard is the seal to get out and a new one back in? I noticed this problem as well last season and have been pulling the primary and injecting the isoflex greae with a syringe under the seal every couple rides. Would much rather replace the seal and grease. 2200miles and still running great on an 08 xp.

Can the bottom end be modified to utilize the injection pump and turn the crank bearings into oil lubed? I understand it would possibly be a lot of work. It would be nice to not worry about grease.

Buddy had the grease coming out.
We checked the runout, it was at 9 thou.
He didn't have time to mess with it, so he brought it into Mots.
Tom said that all the bottom end bearings were shot, he tried to true the crank but it was too far gone.
Total R&R with new pistons, seals bearings... A little over 2 grand... I though it was a good price for a new rebuild, ready to ride.
