This will make for a good experiment. Both myself and my brother have m1000's. Im going to put the RTK kit on while his will remain bone stock. Will be interesting to see how the 2 compare side by side on the 20th!

No Problem. Ill let you guys know the comparision between the 2 when i get back on the 24th. The only problem is my brother decided to go out and got one before i had the chance, so I guess i get to run stock and see how bad he out climbs me! :realmad:

What's this top end stuff? Backshift.....yes I need good backshifting, acceleration yep OK;..... top end, who gives a fawk. If guys were worried about top end I would think we would see alot more threads about gearing UP, than everyone gearing DOWN. Bashing posts....nope don't need them either.:nono:

Now, how does your input help us? ( I feel dumber now) I believe what "gotboost" was trying to say was "track speed" while climbing.

No problem on the offense... It is just that things are not always as they apper.. I mean all pizza's look alike but they certaily taste different..

In any case.. Yes, the kits are quite different due to the helix..
Will it fix your problem.. It should, it fixes all our issues..

Kelsey

I installed the RK Tek with a 38/36P helix into my 07 M1000. I don't know that I am that impressed with it. I had an OEM 44/40 helix with the orange spring in it and I think that was a better set up. Talked with Glenn at Spindrift in Mcbride BC and he runs his with the preload set at the right most hole. Now if I followed the instructions on your website correctly I don't have any preload in the right most hole. To have preload in the right most hole I had to go past 10 degrees as stated in step 15 of the instructions.

My question to you RK is did I do something wrong when installing this Kit. Glenn swears by his, me not so much. Now if I put something together wrong, my bad, step 7 in instructions very critical but not very clear, your bad. A better explanation with pictures would definately help. Please reply to this post as I want to know if I have done thie install wrong. Thanks

I put the torsional kit in mine. tried a 40 / 34 at first worked well in soft snow not in set up snow. put a straight 36 in and alot of preload. I like it as it backshifts perfectly now. If i find i can shift out faster due to the conditions i back off the spring , the sled makes more trackspeed. I tighten it if i find it needs more backshift. Great tuning tool. I recommend it.

I went with D and D`s kit. alot cheaper and i find there is no difference between that and rkt kit.

Hey pipes, I put the rktec setup on my turbo m8 also and have the same problem. No preload on right most hole, even in the middle hol it wants to take of in high gear. In the left most hole seems to work good but have no more adjustment. Any ideas from RKTEC would be great as the install instructions are a little tricky to understand.

Hey, Sorry guys about not getting back to you any earlier, My computer crash early last winter and i didnt get around to getting a new one until after sledding season. Anyhow....
I put the RTK clutch in as described in the instructions. There was way too much play in it and my belt kept slipping out of the clutch. I took it to Glen @ spindrift and he set it up for me, I guess i did what everyone was doing and not getting enough tention before installing. When it was set up, I got to be honest and say that between the 2 sleds there was very litttle differnce. Now, I was getting my RPM's dialed in, so there may be some better results then i got that day. When both my sled and and the stock would line up, there was very little difference pulling a deep climb, however Id say comming down the RTK was much better then stock, would hold you back some unlike the stock that almost just freewheeled. I heard that 83 gram weights make a big differnce with this setup, Anyone Done that?

The sled is fantastic out of the box,but like anything, you want the sled to always do more. And I really would like to know how much of a diff the helix makes.

I have the RKT setup in my 07 M1000 with a straight 36 and cat green spring, and it is night and day better then stock, and spanks an 08 with a Cutler conversion. Not sure if you are having other issues (worn belt, index hole drilled in wrong location, or poor helix angle choice), but I couldn't be happier - this sled builds track speed when climbing. Added the RKT kit to wifey's M8 (08), and found great results with it too. I know Kelsey has added a smaller compression sring to the newest kits, can't wait to install and test. RKT is one of the few vendors that actually delivers when he makes a product - if he can't improve it, he doesn't sell it. World could use a few more thinkers like him in my opinion.

Hey guys, I just picked up a new 08 m1000 and cant wait for my first trip of the year. Any of you guys do any clutching to get these bad boys ready for the mountains? I talked to my dealer and they said that they are clutched great right out of the box, but i know that on my last sled (01 rmk 700 144") it took my a good year too get the clutching right. Since ive had a couple of kids i dont get up to Mcbride as much as i used too and dont want to waste a trip or two getting my machine set up. Is there anything you guys can think of doing to make sure my 1st trip isnt spent chasing my buds listening to " Arctic Crap" jokes? :nono: I've done a few mods right from the dealer-A jaws can and clutch vents- Im not looking to keep up with all the mods, just dont want spend a trip not happy with my new toy.

I had major issues with belt temperature and clutching in the powder, side vents are definitely an asset and belt size/material. Aslo I had Brent Linderman at Arctic Edge Motorsports do all my clutching work, he has no problem giving up any info about the changes, his number is 403-564-4673. I also did some major porting, pipes and boon docker work to my sled as well, Brent has it set up at about 205 horses, now its crazy but I had started with the clutch work and it made a huge difference...good luck...

Ive tried the green cat spring and Ive tried cat red white and D&D purple. The green cat works all day long keeping your rpm but no track speed. Its holding the upshift back. Ive tried the lower pressure springs with alot more sucess. The green spring makes it feel strong because it is like gearing a sled down, Factory clutches will take you in a highmark. These torsional kits work well but expect to do some tuning....alot. My best luck was with the d and d spring which is in between cat green and red white.
