Truck is a 07 GMC 5.3 new body style. Noticed oil pressure gauge at 275 (kpa?) yesterday. Today while driving it was at max (500) and check-engine-light on. Then dropped and stayed at 0. Pulled over on the next parking lot, shut off engine and let it sit for a while. Started up again and still at 0 with engine light on. Popped the hood, but didn't see anything and engine sounded normal as well. Does this sound like the sending unit is shot or do I need to look for an engine? Need to go to work tomorrow, but scared to drive and blow up the engine...

Well depending on which engine version it is, first place to start is replacing the valve oil lifter filter and oil psi sensor

It's under the sensor

I assume the oils full and clean??

Thanks for replying tex. Oil is good. Was changed recently. I will do some research on the replacement of the filter and sensor.
If it's too complicated, I may have to visit the gm dealer. My biggest worry right now is whether I can drive the truck to work without a (real) oil pressure reading.

It's a common ish thing, problem is your never 100% sure if there's oil psi or not

Also the wrong oil filter can cause issues too

If you drove it more than a couple minutes with the gauge reading 0 and it didn't seize solid, it still has oil pressure and it'd be fine to drive.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will start up truck and if there are no horrible sounds I will drive to work. Don't have much of a choice.
