Hopefully someone out there can give me an idea of what to check for this.

I own a M8 that is a bugger to start when it's cold out, and not great to start even when it's warm. I love riding this machine and I don't want to part with it, but it is getting harder to pull over every time. A buddy of mine has sugggested that the compression might be off and to check that first, or that there might be something wrong with the rings.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem, or have you come across this already and fixed it. I don't leave it outside, it's in a trailer (heated most of the time) so I am growing more and more frustrated with this and my husband is ready to blow it up.

Any ideas

I'd start with a compression test, and new plugs. Are you getting good spark? If not, look at the harness (ground in particular). If you have good spark, check fuel pressure.

You may want to have him check the belt deflection, If that is set too tight, then the belt could be dragging on the primary clutch and making it hard to start.

Another thing to check is the weights in the Primary. are they centered on the bolts? Sometimes they weight set screws will not seat in the divits in the bolts and allow the weights to creep to one side of the channel. If this happens the weight can stick under the spider and cause the clutch to not fully release the belt.

Kinda long shots here, but I have seen both instances happen.

Make sure there is nothing rubbing on the recoil rope. Also are you having to add coolant could be a possible internal leak. You should smell coolant and have white smoke if there is a coolant problem. The belt deflection is where i would check first. I know you love your 07 M8 but if you rode a 09 M8 you would just have fond memories and a new love as they are that much better. Hope this helps.
