I am just wondering about all the 01,02,03 engines that need to be rebuilt because of crankcase bearings.I have seen that a lot of them have been crapping out around 2,000 Km's.My concern is that I purchased an 01 800 Summit X last winter. It had just over 2,000 K's on it when I purchased it on consignment from a dealer.I test drove it and worked fine.I now have 2,555 Km's on it and it's still awesome.Should I be concerned.I really like this sled.Anybody that has had to rebuild thiers, I'd like to know how many Km's you got out of it.How much would a new motor cost? Thanks.

the life on those engines seems to very a lot, but i think the average is around 4000km??? thats just a trends i see... i know guy with an 01 summit 800 that had 8000km on his, still going strong and i know people that have blown theres up after 2000km... however once the crank bearing(s) go, its probably your best bet to put in an entire new short block, chances are other things went wrong inside the motor so t would be a lot cheaper for the short block.

I have an 02 summit 700 and put new top end in at 4000km. about 1000 bucks by the time the shop did it. (BRP parts). crank bearing went at 4500km and effed one cylinder and piston. price of cylinder is 600, piston 250, crank expensive, so new short block was the final decision. Then you know you have something that is going to run strong for another ~4000km. however if its a quick fix just to sell it, it really doesnt matter.

I know Bombi put the Isoflex in the outside bearings for emission compliance. I don't think it was a good idea. Mine has 9 years on it, but low mileage and hours. I am nervous enough that it is going to come apart before the season starts. It still has 125 cold compression.

The 800HO is bullet proof IMO. Had an 03 never had one issue besides replacing the recoil.

Just pulled apart the top end on my '02 Summit 800 and found cracked skirt on mag side piston at 4300km. Rings pitted up pretty good too. Probably would have come apart on the first good pull. Very lucky to find it when I did. Will do the RK Tek kit and reseal/grease crank bearings and should be good for a bunch more smiles.

Crank bearings all look good, will replace 2 outer seals and regrease. What are you guys using for sealing the crankcase parting line? I have motoseal by permatex but was told to use 5910 loctite, which looks like a black rtv silicone.

I blew one of the crank bearings on my 02 summit 800 last season at around 4500 kms and had to get it rebuilt. I wouldn't be too worried at 2500 km I think they are good motors

Buddy's went at 3500 kms. Rod bearing failure. If you are questioning it at all, just rebuild it.

I have an 02 800 with 3500 kms on it and put a hole in the bottom crank case...looks like part of the piston blew off and fell down into the crank. Crank seems good. But I now have a hole the size of a dime in bottom crank case. Anyone know where a guy could pick up a short block? Any recommendations? looking for new or used.

i bought my 2001 summit x 800 with 5060 kms on it and ran it for 100 kms and took it in to get checked out and turned out that moly flaked off the rings and scored the cylinders and wrecked the crank and case . $1808 for 2001 shortblock with 06 HO cylinders and updated dpm from 03 was $210. Speciality sleds in edmonton did all the work installed everything for $710.
