BCA Link Radios - opinions and reviews.

I'm Looking at purchasing a few of the BCa Link FRS/GMRS radios for sledding. Looking for user feedback or what other options I might want to consider. Price is roughly $175 each unit.

these things are aweesome. when they were on sale we ordered 6 for our group. i have 0 complaints so far with these radios been using them for almost a season. the battery saving low power channels are powerful enough to go a couple km. which is usually all you need. having the microphone on your shoulder is sooo handy. our group is in contact alot more now and it makes things much easier than pulling out a handheld. you can hear it while your riding which is huge. you can talk while your helmet is on and sled running. can push the talk button with your gloves on. battery lasts 2 or more full days. the quick letters on the dial are neat aswell. i program my group on one channel, then a backup highpower long range frequency for my group on another. then you can throw all your other buddies channels on the other letters because no one uses the same channel ever it seems. sometimes i will just flip through the letters and see who else i know is on the hill. all around GREAT product.

i cant recall but i think it was like 2 for 1. 250 for both maybe?

Looks like a good unit. Personally I like the Garmin rhino, because it has a built in GPS and you can see where your friends are(if they have them also) But it is a handheld, so yea you have to dig it out to use it.

I've got a good new set of handhelds I bought in the spring but get tired of pulling them out to answer calls. Rode with a couple with this type (different name brand) radio and was impressed.

Definitely its a pain pulling them out, and if your riding you'll miss a call. The main thing I like about the Rhino is the ability to see your friend location on the GPS. Helps a lot if you get separated in the trees. Some times it would be nice to have an ear piece and mic, right in your helmet so you could communicate with out stoping. Looks like a good rig for the price as the rhino is 500$+ and BCA is a pretty good brand

I think you can get a earphone and mic set for the garmins now. Our group has them. Gonna look into it more

Here's what I use. No that's not me!
You can get them for pretty much any radio. Just need the right cord connector you can select at the bottom of the page.

You can get a speaker mic for a Rino. Keep it on the sled and clip the mic around the handlebars and your set. The only downside is the speaker mics I have found so far are not the best quality. Still looking for a good one.
I have my Rino on my sled and a 2 way in my backpack with a good speaker mic. They are not the easiest to program. The BCA radios look easy.

Any communication like this is awesome for a group.

Do an ebay search for ear bud ptt. There are ones for cobra radios with the double jack as well. You wont miss a call from your buddies with an ear bud. I now have a couple rhinos for me and the wife and they take the same jack as the motorola radios. Ive have to serch for her a couple times with my rhino. Works really slick!

Those are pretty pricy for a frs/gmrs radio. Only 1watt/.5 watt.
I noticed that cabelas has VHF handheld marine radios for 99 bucks, made by uniden.

I bought 2 of these radios last year, just need to get the earpieces to wear under my helmet and then the set is complete.

From what I saw at the Edm Snow Show it's easy. They are the Family radio channels so everything is preprogrammed.

Thanks SBR looks like they will be very handy and get alot of use. Especially if you can hear and use them with the sled running.
