Ok... Who, What, Where, When, and How much???

I haven't ripped open my sled yet, to see exactly why it failed. I'm still leaning towards a broken ring.
But being an 04, and new to me. What kind of shape is the bottom end in?
I have heard of Shortblocks, but I would also like any other input that is somewhat meaningfull. LOL

Re-reading the "Rowdy" thread may help. It seemed to me, that everyone convinced her to go new before even finding out what failed in hers. I did ask her on 2 or 3 occasions in the tread what failed, but never got an answer. It seems a terrible waste to me to just chuck an engine because it needs a top end....but what do I know

Thanks d :D I will look at the top end, and the bottom. I'm just looking for another option, just incase.

how many km?

the reason most people drop in shortblocks is simply price and reliability.

so say it costs you 1000$ to redo your top end because you messed up a cylinder or 2.

now your still going to be worrying about your bottom end.

my experience with the HO engines though is that they are super bulletproof. id be curious to know what failed on yours.

shortblocks range from 1800-2000 and can be installed in about 6 hours.

if you dont have to many miles on your HO i would look at just redoing the top end forsure. but lets see some pics so we can help you out

A top end or short block, I would doo all the work myself. Like I said, I have not opened it up yet.

I bought the sled last summer, and the 2 previous owners said the odometer didn't work for them.

I'm hoping for only a top end, cause it was pulling hard before I squeaked(and not just the day of).

These are a few of the pics I have, I'm hoping to open it up around mid-May.

looks in good shape and well taken care of. possiblty a oil pump failure maybe. let us know when you crack it open.

even draining the coolant and poping off the cyl head bolts ( 20 min job ) and taking a peak tells alot

When it did fail on me in Elkford, I did pull the plugs. The clutch side, the diode was completely compressed, and the was fine metal debris in the plug as well.

I think I'll pull the head this week or week end. I never thought of that, that's a great idea. Thanks :beer: :beer: :D

I said in numerous thread along with Maxwell, pull it apart if it's an obvious rebuild....nothin but a shortblock. Cheap and easy.

yep gotta agree by the looks of cost for the 800s they are fairley cheap. if needed the way to go. but i found on my 1000, i built/put together my own short block for under 2g new crank, cases, pistons and reused the jugs, just hined, for a short block i was looking at close to 4g. from the dealer or aftermarket. you have all summer to repair unless you were hoping for a bunch more spring rippin.

Will be going to my local dealer tomorrow to see how much they want for one. 2400miles and today was the 3rd time the motors blown up. I'll let you know how much.

$1900 + $700 core charge if Bombadier thinks it"s worth that much you get $625 of it back. $75 of that is the charge to ship my block to them.

That sounds like kind of a crap shoot. I think I'd be better to eat the 700, if I had to go the short block route, and have a second good to go drop in on hand.

Thanks for the pricing though, it is appreciated.

Figure out what let loose Trashy?

I have only pulled the head off & have never seen a piston/dome like that before. My only guess would be water/coolant/snow intake???

Well if ya need a hand let me know,,Hope fully it is just in the top end,,,

But that picture of the piston is what my old XLT looked like when it blew up the 3rd time.
