What is the ride in there like ? ie How far? How many hours etc. How far north of Donald do you stage from. I have skied there twice and driven as far as bush arm but I'm not sure where you stag from. Thanks
Du e to damage caused by the flood in June 2013, the Big Elbow/Little Elbow Snowmobile Trail, which is usually open January 1st - March 31st annually, will not be open in 2014. This With all the other damage to trails in K-Country it makes me wonder when this area will get the attention...
The majority of riding is < 6000 feet. I frequently use Google Earth to zoom in on the areas I'm headed to. It gives an exact elevation as you move the curser over the map.
Re: '14 Summit Seay Bars?
The quick disconnect is the route I went with. I installed it yesterday on my 2014 Summit X. I left my 2013 Summit X stock and that will give my son and I a chance to compare both in similar conditions over the next while. The reviews on this forum were widely mixed so...
Hello, My son and I live in Calgary and are both interested in Sled skiing. We have done a bit of sled skiing over the past couple years at Quartz Creek in Golden as well as Boulder Mountain in Revelstoke. I have had formal AST 1 training as well as lots of practice on commercial trips. We are...
The pullstart on my 05 Skidoo 1000 has become very hard to pull. Especially the initial first couple tugs. Any ideas? My two 800's are super easy to pull compared to the 1000. It has recently got tougher and tougher to start.
Thats why I laugh when I hear people in our sport talk about a media conspiracy to give our sport a bad name. There doesn't need to be a conspiracy to give it a bad name ......... there are plenty of people like those in the picture who are prepared to do it themselves.:nono: Lets be careful !
Wow ........ nice picture. I go sledding for many reasons. Views like that are one of the most important reasons I freeze, get real tired, drive on bad roads at all hours of the morning and night as well as take a certain amount of risk. Well done !
Lets be extra safe out there !
I too feel sorry for the losses. As others have stated we need to balance being sensitive to all concerned with the need to learn to avoid similar events.
I too have made mistakes in risk management and luckily haven't paid for it to the extent I might have deserved.
The one thing that does...
Yes we staged from Dawson. From there to the start of the loop my odometer clocked 33KM along the Powderface. The loop itself was 38KM and of course 33 KM back. My wife and I left fairly late at about 2PM and got back about 9PM. We stopped very little and didn't "play around" much. We did travel...
Today I went out to K Country and rode the Elbow Loop via the Powderface Trail. Temp and visability were perfect but the snow cover was lacking big time. I've been told that the snow pack is more than in recent years but I would say it's still just barely passable. Snow cover along the...
>...have you been this yr and if so was there enough snow??
No I haven't. We went there last year once and I swore I'd never sled there again as there wasn't much snow at all. This year I'm tempted but still a bit gun shy. Nakiska has got a few good dumps the past while and that got me...
Thank for the info guys !
I do have one question though....I know the trails in Mclean Creek area real well and can get to the far N.W. of the OHV area without a problem. It is a fair bit west of the gas plant and right alone the south side of the river. To get there with less problems you...
You stage at Maclean Creek. The actual "loop" starts on the far north west end of the OHV area along the river. Given good conditions and taking the right trails it would take about 1/2 hour to get to the start of the area that is only open to snowmobiles. I'm not sure how long the loop is or...
Does anyone have any first hand info on the condition of the Elbow Loop trail. I'm not expecting Boulder Mountain but is it worth the short drive from Calgary to do the loop ? :)
