Morning to everyone on this site! The power was off for hours almost right away last night after getting in...It's so great to see all of the positive comments and offer for donations. I'm blown away at how far this story has travelled.
Lots of thanks need to go out to the local businesses...
Update!!!!! Phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal.....that is the word I think I used the most up the hill today-other than "friggin goggles.." So the trail is finished!!! And it wasn't really until I saw this trench up close that I appreciated just how much phenomenal work had gone into this...
hi-this is one of those times again when accurate information is important-the trail needed to be dug has only ever been around 1 km long-there is about 200meters left to be dug today-this is doable! also, the path being dug is a little more shallow than what was being dug originally-maybe 4-5...
So, it's bitterly cold here yet again-around -31 here at the house. Hoping the sleds will start today-glad that we made the decision to stay back and hopefully see the end of this today. So happy that there were so many people helping out there yesterday-a shame that some have to work today...
Hey there-check out some photos on Sara Olofsons profile
Also, to get an idea of this area, google McBride, British Columbia and check out the town's website as well as the Robson Valley. You'll get an idea of where we are, the terrain and just how rural our little piece of the world is. It's...
It's important to make sure that the right information is getting out there and that the information is as accurate as possible. From our own experience, more words can be written than are actually said by the individual, but hopefully the message is the same and nothing is taken out of...
Just want to say thanks for your supportive comments. A lot of people who live here and sled are also animal owners and feel like you do that these horses didn't ask to be put into this situation and therefore deserve to be helped. There is still no doubt in my mind that if last Tuesday they...
It looks like it's going to be an amazing day to be up in the mountains today. Cold in the valley right now; about -25, but it's an incredibly clear and sunny sky and the temp is supposed to go to -16. Sent a crew from the house this morning again-teenagers in tow :) sucks that holiday plans...
Lots of thanks today go out to Dean, Sam, Barry, Steve, Dave, Stuart, Leif, Lisa and ???? (I'm so sorry for my old man's memory :) )for helping to dig. You guys are persevering when a lot of people would have already given up. Guys and gals like Matt, Logan, Toni, Birgit also deserve a huge...
I've got to say that one of the fellows that has been digging all week is someone with a ton of mountain experience, horse outfitting experience, and sledding experience. There is no doubt in my mind that if he had gone in on Tuesday and found two horses on the verge of death or on the verge of...
So this is about 4 cents worth now, but I'm kind of thinking that the monetary donations (for the chopper) shouldn't happen until we know if it's even safe to move these horses out by chopper. There are some key people who have been dealing with these horses since Sunday, who probably have a...
Got word from Yellowhead Helicopters in Valemount who have got multiple calls today from other concerned locals regarding the removal of the horses. I see that Sara has recently posted some other info about costs/spca and so don't want to step on toes. There are obviously a few of us working...
Two thing's that have been on my mind are 1. Are they going to be too tired to walk out on their own and 2. are they going to be able to walk out with out punching through?
Still waiting to hear from the chopper company-unless has someone else been in touch today and got a return call...
Waiting to hear back from a local helicopter company. Nothing's for sure and digging them out might be the only way to do this-like I mentioned before though, they are getting food and an area was tamped down in the trees so that they have a bit more shelter.
Major lifesaver if you get stranded. One of those things in the Yukon that we never left home without because the chance of being found in time was pretty slim!
totally agree with you and I think this guy should be held liable but in the meantime these horses need some help-luckily food is being brought into them-have pics of them will post tomorrow once the camera is back!
