In the following instances, yes:
Spring snow where the trail has setup enough the track doesn’t kick anything up, but the scratchers just cut thru the snow and don’t throw anything either.
Hard packed trails that you have to ride real slow, IE twisting trails thru trees. Not moving fast enough...
No didn’t sell and decided not to, am going to be riding this year after all. Only experience with an 850 was a short ride on a buddy’s sled, felt weird to me with the steering and floppy rear, but I am sure you could get used to it. I just see no reason to change, Cat works great, I am used...
I haven’t had a chance to take it apart to look, but when I had my sled in to Ralph’s for a service and check over, one of the items they did for warranty was to apply a ‘fix’ to close up the gaps.
Depending on the snow conditions you ride in you might want to budget for replacement boards. Light snow doesn’t seem to be problem, heavy west coast can pack on pretty bad.
I think Cat went with the Team clutches because they decided that they weren’t going to build something better than what they could buy, and they wanted the development funds for other things. My 2014 had a horrible take up, always sounded like it would slip and then suddenly engage with a bang...
If you were getting 600-800km sounds like you were one of the lucky ones. I have 1000km on my 2018 MC and the belt looks new. Finally blew a belt on the 2014 after 2000k,and the was on an over the hood deep day, wide open throttle the entire time. Belts are definitely not a consumable like...
Maybe mention what kind of insurance? Liability only, theft, collision? I pay around 800 a year for full coverage for both my sleds, that is 2million liability, fire and theft as well as collision. Will probably drop everything except liability on the 2014 this year.
I’ve seen Ralph’s advertising 2018 162 Mountain Cats for 13,599. Plus of course taxes and accessories less whatever deal you can swing. Lots of other options a bit cheaper too, shorter track, early release, electric start, Sno Pro etc.
Last fall when I bought my Mountain Cat, I bought two cases of CTec oil becasue it was on sale. Each case is 5 x 1.4 liter/48oz bags of oil. Just over 1000km on the sled, 3 bags emptied and oil reservoir is full. No idea how much fuel I burned as I didn’t keep track but I figure that is still...
Sure it will work fine as long as the ECU can sense and adjust for the increased fuel needed to get the correct mixture. Polaris has a switch to do this, AC always over fueled the Suzuki slightly, no idea what doo does. High performance cars have knock sensors in the plugs and the ECU can...
Yep, all the 2018 m sleds do. Also the narrow body work, main difference between all the models are the shocks. Plus few things like the LED headlight on the Mtn Cat
Any idea on the number of riders this year? Are you able to charge a fixed fee for riders who don’t have a membership. Here in BC pretty much anywhere that grooms there is a $20 day pass if no membership. Guess it depends on whether there is enough people coming out to use the trails to make...
I would love to get rid of,or at least shorten the snowflap on my sled, but we often ride tight winding trails that can get pretty hard. Overheat enough with the flap on there. Need to look into adapting the Linc flap to an AC this summer.
I am sure there is some, but nothing real obvious. On my 2014 when I changed out for a belt drive there was definite wear on the gear, but it just appeared to be the gear adapting to the chain, so nothing major. I think that is one of the reasons they want an oil change after 200km. That gear...
No idea, 2018 has a drain plug, no more pulling off the cover just to change the oil. But that was the 200km change so I doubt there as any wear, other than the break in.
i have a belt drive on my 2014, it saves some weight, but the oil tank is magnesium, and didn’t weigh a lot anyways. 2018...
Definitely do under floor heat if you can. If you do, allow for installing a lift at some point by leaving areas for the legs that are free of tubes and poured deeper to support the mounting bolts. Also have at least a 10ft ceiling over the lift area if you can.
