Official Cataract Creek Snowmobile Area Thread for 2018/19 season

Is anyone going to start a 2019/2020 season thread or is that TeamSnap app supposed to be replacing Snow n Mud for cataract discussions?

Hi guys, I hear there is a trail cleanup day happening tomorrow on ATV's but I'm not getting the emails. Is this still a go? Is it quad only or would a dirtbike be ok to join?

Riding down there this weekend was great. Trails have perfect coverage now, I wouldn't hesitate to go what so ever. The past 2-3 weeks coverage has completely changed (for the better). 5 rides in down there so far this year.

Enough packed snow on the trails for a ride out there, some bare patches here and there where there is lots of sun exposure but I wouldn't hesitate to go for a trail blast if that's your cup of tea. Area was getting dumped on when I left this afternoon which will help. No grooming out there yet...

Trail in up until after the moon isn't so hot but definitely snow after that... Just no base.

Snow still skimpy on the south end - is that indicating that things are now OK on the north/west end? Or they just had info on the south? Getting itchy but don't want to lose the other half of my skags finding out! Lol.

Jesus. Sorry to hear that. Definitely not a good day on sleds out there today but I think you take the cake.

Rode the NW section with Calgarysledguy today, spent most of our time clearing trees. Area needs at least 20cm more snow, most areas are bare or close to with some exceptions. Snow is much lower than previous seasons at opening time. Tighter trails with tree coverage were mostly ok. Left from...

No set plan as of yet. Where ever the snow appears thickest I guess. Will report back Saturday evening. Will drive down to Cataract and likely leave from there unless it looks even thinner...

Anyone who still is heading out Saturday - look for an old black / white rev.

This is from about 2 hours ago - took a little walk into the gate through the field at Etherington with the dog. Little skimpy at the start but thickens up as you go. I assume Cataract and the more South/Westerly sections are better but didn't have time to head further south.

Anyone camped down here in the winter before/after a day of riding? If so where are these fees paid? Online system only lets you book until September. Would that be right in the staging area I assume? Don't recall there being anything plowed into the sites at Etherington at least.

Just over 2 weeks to go - anyone have any insight on how the trails might be for Dec 1st based on current snow levels (if there is any)?

I remember seeing it there last year on the Alberta Government page where the link to the maps are posted, but now I can't seem to find that page. Thinking they must be in the process of editing. Only reference to dates I can find is to the open/closing of the snow gates on the map right now...
