2008 Summit XP 800 Engine Problem

Shortblock would definitely be much quicker. Does the piston wash look a little lean to you? Plugs looked good. Martin Motorsports says they have some shortblocks in stock, but I didn't get a firm price. It was fun figuring out how to get the yellow wires out of the magneto coil plug. The...

XP - Common Issues/Maintenance and good Upgrades

My Oil Pump Cable was frayed badly on my 08 when I removed the engine yesterday. Looks like I need the updated cable....

2008 Summit XP 800 Engine Problem

I had my motor seize at Allan Creek on the 22nd. I let it cool down and was able to pull the cord and start it again. Got almost to the cabin when it died again, and it took more time before it would move again, but when I started it up, it made horrible sounds. It was hard to turn the...

    So...I hit a tree

It's steeper than it looks, and brakes don't work after a certain incline... Your track locks up, but the sled just turns into a toboggan.

National post article thats not bashing us !!

Regardless, going up a mountain without avy gear is plain retarded. It could end up like the 2 skiers in Kananaskis that left their beacons in the truck because "they weren't going to be in avy terrain". I looked at the pictures of the slide, and they were DEFINITELY in avy terrain. If you...

    belts a blowin

As far as I know, the 377 replaced the 166, not the 383. The 383 is softer and not recommended for the Summits.....

    Blown 09 Summit 800

I think it's time to get intimate with the insides of an 800R engine..... Anybody know where to get something I can check crank runout with?

    Blown 09 Summit 800

I am wondering if I should take the sled to a dealer to get looked at. If I have a heated garage and most tools, what, if any, special tools would be required to do a repair like this myself? I'm guessing a piston ring compressor, but not sure on what else. I have tore apart everything except...

    Blown 09 Summit 800

Shell 91 for fuel. This trip I got it at the Shell in Hinton. I figured enough guys from Hinton fill up their sleds there, and I have never had a problem with Shell fuel before... not sure what else would cause it though? Roughly 2400km... I think. I haven't looked at the ODO the last 2...

    Blown 09 Summit 800

I hoped as much. There isn't any "free play" in the crank when I tried to wiggle it. I'm sure I messed up the jug riding it after the first squeak, but I didn't think a chopper is any cheaper than a jug???

    Blown 09 Summit 800

I broke my 08 on Saturday at Allan Creek. Playing in some powder, then carved up a small incline.... and it felt like somebody hit the kill switch. Grabbed the pull cord praying it would move, and nothing. Waited a few minutes, turned it over, and it fired up. Got most of the way back to the...

    January 2011 - Conditions

I was taking the avy course on Friday, and there were only a handful of people that were up Lucile other than us. They seemed to be sticking to smaller terrain (although some of it was steep), and spent a bunch of time close to us. Ric, you said that the avalanche was near the "Waterfall"...

    Quick Release Strap (Goggles)

x2 - I have done this to all of my quick straps after I had one mount come off due to having to reef on it to get the quick strap off. No problems since I did this.
