Topo’s on paper maps or google can be deceiving sometimes once your on the ground, our group was schooled more than once.Had a couple aerial views with sponsored heli rides, they were cheap also🙂
That’s a cool story,a friend I’ve rode with since 1987 had similar adventure.Him and his partner got buggered up back in Boulder and he took a unchartered route on foot down to highway( he said he should have had mountain climbing gear lol!)hitch hiked a ride from a gal that her brother was a...
I over estimated how many private flyers on this site, with so many with private flying licenses I thought there would have been some sightseeing over there favourite riding areas.
How many have viewed riding areas from the air,I’ve seen mostly Valemount area in a helicopter and once in a plane in the summer time. Was really amazed at some of the Glaciers in the summer Hallam&Foster we’re very knarly looking.I think these would be small in comparison to some further south.
Actually Carl was the bridge builder lol!Yes Jim was amazing to ride with, very humble but exceptional talented rider in back country, seen it many times where he was on a low HP sled helping some guys on big iron get out of a pickle. One great memory of Jim was him riding “Skully” a full mod 650...
This event took place on a trip in that area that I could not make due to seeding crop in early May.There was a convoy of 11 decks that headed down the lake with Kuster leading the way.The whole deal came to a grinding halt with the road being washed out. With the whole group discussing their...
That’s real cool, a few of us always wanted to barge a few sleds and a camper down there but never got around to it.We traveled about 80 km from town one time, some cool chit down there. That was around 25 years ago🙂
X2 on that, rode with Carl when he was 13 and a fair amount for 10 years leading up to the start of CKMP.Had some great trips and explored some cool terrain, a shortcut out of Happy Creek ended with a overnight on the mountain great memories 🙂
I’m 3rd owner of a 30+ year old beaver tail style aluminum deck that was built in the Leduc area I believe.Ive had it for over 10 years and it was polished by the 2nd owner and still looks descent,I’ve never polished it.
The sides are 1/4”x 4” flat bar,is yours extruded aluminum?
Your body has taken a real beating,I assume you were an aggressive snowboarder/sledder,I hope you’re done with injuries.
I’ve been fortunate with injuries only a few, torn ligaments in shoulder, torn hamstring and multiple broken ribs.I thank the late Jim Kuster every time I strap my knee pads...
I was in my prime at 40,that was the mid point in a 10 year span that we explored lots of untouched terrain, about 5 of us took it real serious and would charter a chopper to get better perspective on untouched drainages to find access to some cool ch!t.I was riding mod 488 fan in those years,the...
I hear ya,I guess I’ve been fortunate in seeing many different phases in the mountains in last 40 years.
One particular outing with a 26 sled convoy into a no traffic area had 8 of us on lower HP sleds make it in and more than 10 BIG HP mods never made it🙂
