None of the north trails are groomed yet. Both trails from town to the Summit cabin were groomed. Groat creek trail has had creeks filled and been packed but is not groomed yet. Snow is quite variable as the Chinook touched down. Still pretty good close to Whitecourt.
We use Spot's in the groomers for working alone safety. Was just wondering if anyone has tried the Solara system? Our trails are pretty much all old seismic lines or ones we made ourselves. GPS is not really required as we have no open areas other than the odd cut block.
Sounds like something the A.S.A. could set up. I know our club is contacted a lot on groomed trail conditions. We do post it weekly on the club website.
This is a terrible year for trees drooped down over the trails from the Sept. snow. We had them cleared and this last snow brought a bunch more down. Mostly 3-4" birch. What have some of you done to protect the strobe etc. on top of the cab of the Snocat? Don't say cut the trees as we are...
At Whitecourt we estimate about $15.00 per KM. We do about 450 KM with two BR 350 SnoCats. Cost would be higher in mountains with mostly steep grades and more snow. Trail passes are cheap relative to cost of grooming!
