Your best bet is the Groat Creek staging area on highway #32. It is plowed out.

    Whitecourt conditions

None of the north trails are groomed yet. Both trails from town to the Summit cabin were groomed. Groat creek trail has had creeks filled and been packed but is not groomed yet. Snow is quite variable as the Chinook touched down. Still pretty good close to Whitecourt.

    Groomer monitoring system.

We use Spot's in the groomers for working alone safety. Was just wondering if anyone has tried the Solara system? Our trails are pretty much all old seismic lines or ones we made ourselves. GPS is not really required as we have no open areas other than the odd cut block.

    Groomer monitoring system.

Sounds like something the A.S.A. could set up. I know our club is contacted a lot on groomed trail conditions. We do post it weekly on the club website.

Has anyone tried the Solara groomer monitoring system? Seems to have some good features.

    Tree Wells

I know it was fatal for a fellow in Blue River a few years ago. He fell in with his sled on top of him. Sled did not shut off and it killed him.

Getting old like me does suck. But the alternative is not good either! Enjoy life while you can!

It was already removed by a tree but I kind of like to keep it on for safety. The machine is pretty visible but the light helps.

    Tree problems

This is a terrible year for trees drooped down over the trails from the Sept. snow. We had them cleared and this last snow brought a bunch more down. Mostly 3-4" birch. What have some of you done to protect the strobe etc. on top of the cab of the Snocat? Don't say cut the trees as we are...

Not going to go down much now with 20" plus of new snow on it! Very slow clearing trails this year with all the droopers from that snow in September.

Great snow, but not worth pounding over that rough trail to get up here!

    Trail Widths

As Tyler notes go to the A.S.A.. They have a trail manual that also stipulates type and location of signage required on A.S.A. designated trails.

    Trail Fee Increase.

At Whitecourt we estimate about $15.00 per KM. We do about 450 KM with two BR 350 SnoCats. Cost would be higher in mountains with mostly steep grades and more snow. Trail passes are cheap relative to cost of grooming!
