As for staging at trail head why not if you can get in there. They probably won't be plowing it out but you never know. They want you to park at ground hog staging so you pay for a groomer that hardly grooms( once a week if your lucky but they will tell you was just groomed. Sent from my iPhone

well any sled i ever buy i clean everything put new everything(grease,oil,gas,chaincase oil,antifreeze) in it that way i know what is in there and how everything looks like before i start riding it

i am pretty sure the the recoil is not made of rope and rope can not be cast so i do believe they are retarded whom ever you talked to ... 1 inch from the handle ummm maybe the rope will fit back in the handle hole and retie it just make sure you use the propper knot ... (ashley's stopper knot)
