As well it appears by the licence plate on the trailer that they are from Saskatchewan and for all we know they are allowed to sled in National Parks in Saskatchewan because they are certainly allowed to in some other provinces and other countries. Without a "no snowmobiles" sign on
Highway 11...
One guy died in this one. It was one of the two that you see blasting up the slope in the background, one behind the other. They of course triggered the second slide and one of them did not make it. Like you say you wonder what they were thinking, slope has already popped once low down, a bunch...
Yes has certainly gone off the rails. Wasn't me either. Interesting to see the name Marc Ledwidge. Used to ski with Marc once in a while when he worked for the Park Service in Jasper many years ago. Looks like he has relocated and got a promotion. Again, if this was some form of protest on their...
Not yet. Have seen several wolves in the valley floors even one chasing an elk and have seen many mountain caribou in the alpine (never in designated snowmobile areas mind you:d) but what I have never seen is a Wolf chasing a Mountain Caribou in the alpine on a snowmobile track.
Great idea except the wolf numbers would drop and the caribou numbers would come back and then instead of Caribou Closure Areas we would have Wolf Closure Areas and of course it would be the fault of sledders that the wolf numbers declined and also of course not allowing sledders in a Wolf...
You are absolutely right. That was the original purpose of the National Parks Act as mandated by the federal government of the time sometime near the turn of the last century. Probably the most forward thinking piece of legislation any federal government has passed in the history of this great...
Back in the early 70's a buddy of mine at the time used to go on winter holidays with his parents to Num Ti Jah Lodge on Bow Lake near Bow Summit where this illegal snowmobiling incident occurred. It was a snowmobile holiday in Banff National Park and the Lodge provided the snowmobiles and the...
You friend is correct to a certain degree. All "Crown" land is held by Her Majesty the Queen in the Right of the Province of ______". (Insert whatever Province you are in). Even though it is her name on the title she does not really own it, she holds it for the people of Canada and whatever...
No one on this thread mentioned anything about quads being allowed in National Parks. It was you that made the quantum leap from sleds using existing wide trails to access the alpine once there is sufficient snow cover to quads tearing up narrow hiking trails. You say "What next?" and that is...
:d
Bogger would be a great PR man for our sport. Only thing is when Bogger makes a speech in public we would have to do like they did with Peter Lougheed and hide a small stool behind the podium for him to stand on to make him look bigger. Okay from now on no more picking on short guys.
Actually remember sledding on Signal Mountain in the late 70's just outside the Jasper Townsite on my dad's 1971 Olympic 335. That was a designated area within Jasper National Park for sledding and it was perfectly legal then. Not sure what year the rules changed but it was a long time ago. I do...
This is exactly the point that Modman is trying to get across to everyone. You can talk about the economy and sales and say sled sales dropped due to the economy and the industry is good and the sales will come back but the point is if in the future we have nowhere to sled other than our own...
McLennan River Family Restaurant and Truck Stop. Right across Highway 5 from Yellowhead Helicopters. Yellowhead Helicopters is another business in Town that is good to know where it is located so you can tell your buddies where to pick you up should you be unfortunate enough to have you and your...
Yes that was pretty bizarre if it is the same guys we saw in avalanche alley on the Saturday of MM4. Sometimes two on a steep loaded slope at one time and the other five or so all sitting in the run out zone. If that face popped which I have seen it do once several years back would not have been...
Yes an officer does have my name in his little book but that is not why I made that post, honest, I am not sucking up to them. You believe me don't you?
LOL
It is admirable that the Town of Valemount is trying to do something about this issue but in the end all they can do is put in their best effort and we have to admire them for that. The fact of the matter is that in Canada police are allowed to "target" certain groups. How many impaireds are...
He may look drunker but at that stage of the evening to be "drunker than the rest of the crew" he would either have to be falling over or puking in the parking lot.
Brian Beebe from Tri County Snowmobile Association just sent me an email regarding this. Alberta Sustainable Resources is letting it stay open until the middle of March.
