If you buy a mountain sled and run it on the hard packed Alberta lakes you better make sure it has scratchers or throw on a set or you will be burning up sliders and likely overheating on a regular basis. Make sure you get the scratchers that will allow you to back up without destroying them as...
Muffin started this post methinks looking for a shoulder to cry on and someone to talk him out of leaving the sport of sledding. This appears to be lost on most and we now have a pissing match going on between the Yami and the Doo and/or two stroke guys. We should call a truce on this stuff over...
Maybe we should change the name of the thread to 2012 Most Influential Canadian "Mountain" Sledder and under that category certainly Curtis and Lori and Randy would be up there thanks to their efforts to keep sledders out of the news when it comes to the negative publicity we have received over...
Donald is at the south end of Kinbasket Lake and Velemount is at the north end of Kinbasket Lake so about 190 km. between the two. The resort you stayed at is privately owned, the campgrounds near Valemount are Forestry Service Campgrounds where you deposit the $15 per night in a box. No owner...
Valemount. A lot closer to Edmonton than the Okanagan or Golden (4.5 hours from west City Limits) and you can camp on a 120 mile long lake with direct access to many quad trails. Griffin Sawmill, Yellowjacket, Horse Creek are all secluded campgrounds on the lakefront on the east side of...
Great work VARDA and ABC. Awesome teamwork as well, back country skiers provide a good portion of the data needed by the CAC, sledders are providing a large share of the funding and the CAC provides the avalanche bulletins that give us the information we need to venture into the back country in...
Now is still a great time to go to Valemount. You can sled for free, golf (Valemount Pines opened April 19th), quad on the valley bottom logging roads and hit Marmot Basin on the way back or the way down (open until May 6th with best snow in their history).
Don't know Jim or Carl but ride with guys who rode in Valemount with Jim and young Carl back when it was considered a good day if you made it to the Allen Creek Cabin. Reid Perkins who may not be on this forum talks about Jim quite often when we are riding. He said Jim is an amazing rider...
Canoe Mountain is one big rock at the north end of the Monashee Range. Once you are into the alpine there is not a lot of protection so if you don't drive off a cliff the wind will likley blow you off. Best to save that one for a quad trip on a sunny, calm day in the summer.
Many discounts with the VARDA membership including but not limited to Alpine Rentals, ASE Motorsports and Valemount Pines Golf Course. My $25 is paid back many times over just with the discount at the Valemount Pines Golf Course, which is by the way an amazing course for a small town and well...
Like Tantrum said. Did not come out with the high output motor until 2010 so if you are looking for a big bump in horsepower over the M7 look for a 10 or 11.
Someone mentioned in earlier posts that Alpine has two new Proclimbs this year in the rental pool. As well I am pretty sure Glen at Spindrift in McBride rents them.
