so i took out my second crank shaft today in Blue Lake (Sicamous). I only got 700 miles out of this one. WTF........ went the motor is turned over by hand with the primary it feels like a conection rod bearing pooped the bed........ there is play and a loud "clunk" sound. any one know if the conecing rods are prone to failure? sled only has 2000 miles on it. here goes another $1000.00

Ya, lots of issues with 08 cranks. They are either braking in the center of the cranks or on the outside of the block at the stubb. My buddy has gone through three since Christmas. The cranks have been coming from CV tech in Quebec and they know there is a problem. I would suggest getting a short block from Skidoo than at least you will have 1 year warranty.

Well,,,,,,,,,, found my problem today. It appears that the PTO side of my crank shaft snapped in two, sheared right off. WTF.......... haven't seen this one done before. Good thing it lasted until I got it back to the truck or it could have made one hell of a mess to the aluminum cases if it had let go up in the alpine.

Off to specialty sleds on Monday to see what the damages will be for another crank shaft.

It's a WTF type of a moment, only got 700miles on this one. Hope the next one lasts longer.

I guess It's not a sport if you're not buying parts.

Thats the way it came from CV Tech. funny thing is that was the only component that was welded. Not sure why they only welded one connecting rod?

I had a crank from cv tech last 75 miles and the pto end snapped off. I would send that back for warranty.

been hearing alot of horror stories about cvtech on dootalk.

either way its probly welded because when they recieved it as a core it was twisted out of phase.

I am sure glad that it held together down the trail, don't think it would have taken much to completely F*** the whole motor. Speciality Sleds is looking in to it for me, with any luck it will be warranted.

On a doo crank?

Let's not go through this again..........:p

i have 12 xps sitting in my shop. 9 of them have over 3000 miles including my personal sled. the others have less. one 2008 has been through a crank center bearing locked up at 4200km not miles. still not the greatest but not terrible either and it was a preproduction 2008 so i somewhat expected it. the other 2008 was sank in a river for a whole day. still running to this day 2000 miles. knock on wood.
i have had a crank bearing failure on an older 2002 zx 800. other than that these crank problems everyone keeps talking about im just not seeing it except whats mentioned on this site.

LOL. well mine will fail one day then i guess i can stop yappn

They all fail, just a matter of when and where.

You should get a 15" wide track for next year, you'd be stylin'. Probably help you climb higher too. Lighter rotating mass = more track speed = higher up the hill.

Polaris and Arctic Cat were both started by the same guy, they're like sister companies. should post something in the polaris section, that would get the boys going.......:d

cv tech gives a 1 year warranty on there cranks, some of the parts are from offshore tho, usually you will see these break sooner then wanted, lately they have been using fag german bearinngs or koyos which are good. The cranks need more oil for the rods and bearings. Terra Alps does a case mod to help oiling for the crank bearings.
