yamaha srx 700 fouling plugs

my dads srx is fouling plugs , the previous owner used "royal purple" synthetic oil , but we use castrol oil , should he switch to a synthetic? or stick with castrol? he is out buying plugs and probably a good synthetic oil , right now and gonna go test it when he comes back! any help is apreciated! thanks.:d
