VARDA is very proud to release our plan to construct a new warming shelter in the Allan Creek area in the fall of 2018. This will be our largest and most challenging infrastructure project to date and we are excited to be releasing our plans to the public.
We are even more proud to say that we will be constructing this shelter as a memorial to a recently fallen local legend, Tony Parisi. What many may not know, is that Tony fought hard for backcountry access and was one of the main reasons conversations began that eventually led to the creation of what we now know as the Valemount & Area Recreation Development Association (VARDA).
Tony lived for the feeling of being in the highcountry on sleds and helped pioneer the industry that feeds Valemount today. Allan Creek was his second home and this new shelter will forever act as a memorial for our good friend, mountain legend, true cowboy and the original Snowfarmer.
The new shelter will be a stretch for us, but we believe that the value in this new project is extremely high for our visitors and are excited at the challenge.
Due to the remoteness of the building site, very short build season and general difficulties of construction, this will be a very large undertaking.
As with the construction of the Clemina shelter, many have already asked how to help with this project. The funding campaign for the Clemina shelter was a big success and we are relying on that level of support again to make this project possible.
We will be running the same donation campaign as we have previously with the Clemina shelter. All donors over $100 will be recognized on a permanent plaque in the cabin in one of three categories. There is a limit to get on the memorial plaque although no donation is too small. Every little bit counts. Donations can be made via the gofundme link below, direct etransfer, paypal or good old cheque.
"Treeline" $100 - 499
"Alpine" $500 -999
“Highmark” $1000 +
This is one of our largest projects to date and we are anxiously waiting for the alpine construction season. The new shelter means a huge deal to sledding in Valemount and we are extremely happy to be able to dedicate this build to our friend Tony.
