that is cool idea......has anyone heard of the new rules coming out this Nov about kids riding????? is it going to be like quads here in BC.....16+ in age? or is there going to be an engine restriction on size???? I ask because my boy is 10 and has had his own full size 550 RMK since he was 5.....he has all the avy equipment and is safer on the trail and hill than most adults.....so now is the government going to say he cant ride????? if so there should be a course that they can take to show they can ride.....I didnt just through him the keys and say go have fun......it has taken years to get him where he is now in his riding! sorry for venting and this probably isnt the place but had to say it!

where are you going to be holding this course????

Were going to have it our trail system west of Edmonton January 14 we got 80k.m trail with a different terrain have some hills ,road crossing ,fencing ,groom trail . powder snow giving a taste of different kinda riding and show them safe way of tackle the terrain .One my way of teaching is what i call follow me and then i follow them and correct any issuers. Any sport is a high risk but if we reduce the risk even by a little bit its a step forward. My son being riding with me since he was 6 now he is 18 and he is great rider had a few hard knocks along the way but no broken body and no wreck machine

That's a great idea! We need something like this around Calgary! I would volunteer a hand but I've only got a couple years of experience best the kids be learning from a vet! This will be good for whoever shows up! Hopefully they take advantage of it!

what a wonderful way to reach out to the youth. I have a program for Kids that I taught in a school for 6 weeks as their PE class. Bridgette from the Canadian Avalanche Center was a tremendous help. They have resources that they will send educators to facilitate winter safety instruction. I didn't cover Riding skills so much as winter survival with my students. How to dress for winter conditions properly, Frostbite and frost nip, how to pack a survival pack, how to light a fire, how to build a winter shelter, Avalanche awareness, Hypothermia etc... The kids were awesome, and very interested in every aspect of the classes. If there is anything I can do to help you, if you'd like some of my lesson plans for hand outs or anything else let me know. I'd be happy to help in any way. Contact the Avalanche center and let them know how many students you have and what you plan to teach them. They really are a wealth of resources and information. they have oodles of handouts, books and other reference material you can share with your students.

cheers!

Momma.

Thanks Momma Ill do that i figure you can teach youth in class room but if you take to the trail and use it the program will make bigger impact .But due to legal aspects were going into uncharted area so as a club were wording things very carefully .The end result hopefully we can make our great sport a little safer .the program will cover planning a trip, enjoying the trip and finish the trip with need to do it all over again .
