The 36-year-old father of a 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after the ATV they were riding on flipped on Highway 33, south of Swan Hills, Alta., on Friday.
The accident happened at 7 p.m. MT as the pair were towing a trailer loaded with lumber.
Swan Hills RCMP said the father lost control of the ATV and was thrown as it flipped along with the trailer.
He was taken to hospital in Swan Hills and then airlifted to a hospital in the Edmonton area due to the severity of his injuries. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
The 7-year-old was treated in Swan Hills and released.
The investigation is currently ongoing but RCMP said that alcohol was not a factor.
