I have a 1993 Yamaha Big Bear 4x4 quad. I mainly use it for fishing so I usually don't go very fast. Today I took it for a ride on the rode and almost lost control. I went out on the edge of the road and the were some ruts and when I hit them it thew me back to the middle of the road and when I tried to correct it it threw me in the oppisit direction. I was only going about 10 or 15 miles an hour. If I had been going faster I may not be sitting here now. I put it in the shop and the steering does not seem to be loose. Could the tor in cause this. I bought this machine last year and it needed some engine work on it which I did over the summer. I checked the steering for free play today and it seems to be tight. Where should I start, rebuild the whole front end? Thanks Ivan

check the tie rods, and your tie rod ends. also make sure the large nut on the front wheel, that holds the bearings in is tight. (under the dust cap)

the big bear is a beast to steer so if your hitting ruts it s not the most forgiving for rebound.. check your tire pressure and toe in...

good luck

remember u cant kill a big bear but it can sure wound u if your not paying attention...

How much air pressure do you have in your tires, my old Suzuki did that when I got below 5psi on the front.

I just bought a 1990 Yamaha Big Bear and it pulled hard to the right. I checked the tire pressure on ALL wheels and found them to be 5.5 psi. I adjusted to the recommended 3.5psi and problem solved. BUT hard to start a turn to left or right. I talked to a friend who had one of these and he said that was the nature of the beast.
