So I bought a Y-Pipe and Can at the sled show two weeks ago and am looking to install it next weekend on my 2009 Summit XP 800R.
Was wondering if anyone had a step-by-step on how to do it (looks simple but very congested in there), or any tips to make it easier/quicker, I've also got a few questions:
Do I need to torque the bolts to a specific ft-lb?
Are there gaskets that might need replacing?
Is there anything I could damage by not installing the Y-pipe right?
Does the Y-Pipe really get me an additional 4-5 hp?

Thanks,

Thanks,

First you will want to remove your hood, grille, doors, pipe and can. It can also be beneficial to remove the console, headlight and airbox to get you some extra room.

Remove the y pipe bolts. From my experience works the best for getting the bolts out.
Remove old y pipe and gaskets. It wouldn't hurt to install new gaskets when putting the new y pipe on.
Trim gaskets to make sure the none of the pipe is obstructed by the position of the gasket.

Install y pipe. The service manual recommends that new bolts be used when installing the y pipe and torquing them to 132 in/lbs(not to be confused with foot pounds!)

I can't comment on the individual power gains as I put my on in conjunction with a pipe and other mods.

Hope this helps!

+2 on everything that was said, Nordlock washers are the best item you can get for your y-pipe bolts. Never deal with locktite again!

I fabbed up an allen wrench to get at the bolts easier. Its an extra long one that I bent the end about 45 degrees that seems to work. I also have something simular maierch's kit, just not snap-on that is great for torqing the bolts.

Lastly, if you did have bad gaskets, or they were given a chance to leak (if they had any rips, tears or pieces missing), you could lean out the motor pretty quick.

Being a cheap basturd i use a pair of vice grips and one of the spring extensions that come with the Mbrp can. Actually found that it works better too. As far as the rest of it everythings been said. I used a driver in a small socket to remove and reinstall Y pipe. Worked great only removed shroud, pipe and belt cover to gain good access. It really is easy. 5 ponies??? I doubt it. I looked at the stock one and the new one very carefully and really couldn't see much of a difference if any. Everyone knows cool stickers is really where its at for more horsepower anyways!!:d:beer:

For removing springs a strong boot lace works great. You can put a short wrench in loop and use that to pull on also.
